  1. The time is right on FreeBSD an officially supported GNOME platform · · Score: 1

FreeBDS has been with us for a long time and it is a VERY solid product. With its ever increasing popularity this past year, it only makes sense that GNOME would honor the OS by putting it on the list. This is good not only on the part of the FreeBSD people, who get full support for the awesome GNOME, but also for GNOME who's domination of the desktop will be spread even further. Now it will have a much bigger tester and programmer base. I say its about time, GO GNOME!

  2. Hand in hand... Math on the chemical level. on 3D Microfluid Computers Used To Solve NP Problems · · Score: 1

This article just goes on to show how many of the computer science problems and mathematical problems can be solved with the help of physical scientists (note: not only physics, but chemistry also as in this case!). This goes along with research efforts at the University of Chicago to builder wires that are a strand of conductive molecules long. They can potentially solve a lot of mathematical problems by designing circuits that accomplish what they want. (For example, you can put a "junction" , where a signal gets split between to strands of molecules. Then one can flip the switch by sending photons to the junction!)

I agree, I am a big fan of AIM. AOL has the right to control their servers, since they pay for it anyway. Its not like they are not including everyone... For almost all platforms you can go and download AIM from AOL. If you think its too bad and unfair that now you can't use you Everybuddy IM and have to load two or three programs in KDE, then you are just complaining for no good reason. You guys get a FREE system that works great AND offers clients for all platforms, but still you bitch bitch bitch... Grow up!

AOL has the right to do what it wants, afterall, it is THEIR server. However, they should realize how much better being open is. Their practices are more and more taking after Microsoft. I guess not only is Microsoft trying to take over the world with its products, but also by replacing current business practicies with it own method and ethics. Both industry and Academics...SCARY!

Oh please. Third world does not mean no one can afford it. Infact, the lower the price the better, since even more percentage of a third world can use computers. The small percent that can afforce a cheap computer in a third world can easily out number Europe or the US! For example, my wife's family live in Iran (third world). However, many family members have some form of a computer (be it an old 486 for learning or a AMD K6 for practical reasons, or a new machine!). In fact, from what I understand, just like in the US, most universities use linux for work. My sister-in-law uses emacs in Iran to do her Ph.D. thesis.

Preach it! It takes me a lot less time and effort to setup a good, SECURE, and STABLE server to satisfy me than to get WinSuck installed, updated, and go and buy all the apps to make it a good server. Just one example: I had to replace my Asus A7V motherboard with Asus A7V133. I swapped the bad boy and linux ran without a single error. However, the Win2k and WinME were 100% dead and needed reinstalling (I use them for games). Talk about linux saving time! Every time I have to reinstall windows on a machine so I can go play my games, I tense up and hate it, just waiting for the crashes and constant reboots.

All these other guys have had actual impact in science with REALISTIC science, while Big Bang ... well you know. A lot of stuff now done have little impact in science and little hope of proof, its novel. Its not like solid state, chemical physics, or theoretical chemistry, etc.
