Build from the common tree. People can elect to run the windows or server version.
If you're away 200 miles, you should be running a desktop Unix and dialing to your server version via a 300bps line.
Let's not ignore the GUI part of Unix. Too often times, the server backend is decided by the desktop/frontend. For a dumb A___ example, if desktop users run Windoze, guess what sort of filesystems/file server they want on the back end?

BEING a 17 years old I have to say you're probably stupid. This all reminds me the false respect we gave high school drop outs a few years back. It fooled me too. I thought these kids are smart until I met a few. No. You have to finish college, work a few years, present your work in a COMPLETE and competent level then your boss will respect you. If you care so much about respect, chances are you don't have the things that make people respect you in abundant. If you disagree with this assessment then my advice would be to shoot for the money. Try forgetting respect for a while and go for something you can control...if you're really good as you said you are.
50% of the people are "tree huggers" and that helped. My advice to those tree huggers is that they need to buy SUV's and start destroying the environment equally...

speaking of resources, what are we thinking of next to burn up energy? something more exotic like continuous fireworks on nuclear explosions??? i mean all these machines are going to be hooked up to the net, then we require them to be up 24x7 to burn fossil fuel, and then the facility they are housed need to have AC to be on 24x7 or the computer would heat up and burn...it's clear we have created a situation where the production of energy will soon be majorly used "just to keep things running"...and this requirement will keep on going up. It's no longer a simple demand where energy is ONLY BE USED when you need it!!! like turn up the thermostat now when I'm cold...or I'm going to start my car now because I need to go somewhere...
The net is like, I'm going to start my car now to go somewhere and when I get there, I'll leave it on running because my car needs to be running 24x7!!!
