OK, I'm 23 working at the bottom, but I do have one thing to say. The difference between the last shop I worked in and this one is big. In the last shop we had "older" programmers, this one "younger". Do we both operate effectively...yes. The difference is in my current workplace we have to work twice as hard to get things done with workarounds becuase the programmers are too lazy to do thier jobs. When there was a problem at the last shop the experienced programmers fixed it. Here they just blame something else as long as they can until its unavoidable. Then the fix is only a bandaid. The only single programmer who ever did anything like that at my last shop just also happened to be young. Go figure.
That brings up an interesting point, some of the most brilliant people I know, one of which in particular, are actually moving to the netherlands to take higher paying jobs than they could get in the states. I didn't know it was really that big of a deal but your comment happened to cause me to realize just how many people I know have moved there in the last year or so.
