I bought by Abit BH6 back in 1998 and I'm still running it. She's had a Celeron 300A @ 450 and now Celeron 566 @ 850. I could upgrade all the way to 1.0 Ghz+. Although it's about time for an Athlon:)
I think the major think which precipitataed the DMCA and other crazy laws/rulings is the fundamental misunderstanding of the digital community by lawmakers.
Senator X thinks: wow, the interent is used to do a lot of bad things, therefore its bad -> Lets "fix it." They don't understand that things like the DMCA violate the very spirit of innovation which brough about the internet and the Tech Boom.
In addition Senator Y may not have an opinion on the DMCA(or similar legislation) but when he recieves a fat check that says "DMCA-Yes" on the back from the RIAA(or similar) what is he going to vote for? The only thing that we can possibly do is, for the sort-term, write to our representative : 1,000 letters saying "DMCA-NO" may just override the RIAAs check (at least for somewhat honest senators(there are still a few right?)) In the long term it has to be made an issue: this is far more difficult because the avereage person will say that reverse enginerring is bad because itstealing others ideas, etc... the average person needs to be made aware of the negative effects of legistation such as the DMCA.
My friend had a 60GXP 40GB fail within a week of new! the drive was running about as cold as you can get inside a case. I dunno if it was mobo or what (Abit KG7-R) but a HDD shouldn't do that. My Maxtor Diamondmax 40GB (the fast one, can't remember if its plus 60 or plus 40) is running perfectly 24/7 for months now. The Maxtor does run about twice as hot as the IBM though.
Unfortunately, when hydrogen burns in the presence of Nitrogen (as in our atmoshere) it creates harmful NOx gases which are tha major source of ozone depletion etc. So while hydrogen theoretically burns cleanly it doesn't in practice. Plus hydrogen doesn't produce as much energy because it burns very hot but also very quickly. As for hydrogen being more dangerous, the initial explosion would be more violent but it would probably not have bruned nearly as long - in this aspect i think it would be better
Newer diesel engines are as clean or almost as clean as gasoline engines now - especially the ones from high-end manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes. The problem with diesel is you'd have a hard time convincing most Americans you have to put "special" gas in their cars. Plus diesel never generate as much horsepower compared to similar gasoline engines - they do produce more torque but again most people don't understand torque. It just takes information and an open mind.
There is not real confirmation of this, but many historians believe FDR planned Pearl Harbour to get America into the war. The evidence certainly points in this direction as the US had decoded Japanese coded transmissions well before Dec 7th despit what it says in the review.
It was my understanding that the ornithopters in DUNE were elegant bird-like flying machines. In the miniseries they were made to look like big grasshoppers. The lift was supposed to be generated by the flapping of the wings not fans underneath them. The Harkonnen ornithopters were far closer to what i had envisioned, the Artredies ones just looked plain stupid.
