  1. In Response To Inquiries.. on What is the Value of an MBA to a Techie? · · Score: 1

Thanks, all of you for the great input! To answer some of your questions: I am 2 years out of College. I have a 4 year degree in Computer Engineering from Lehigh University. I learned a great deal from my undergrad experience, but I used little of it for my first job (a validation contractor), and even less for my current job (Validation engineer for a VoIP company). Most of the skills I use in my workplace were picked up after college. If anything, my undergrad experience taught me how to assimilate technical and mathematical knowledge. I picked up a lot of stuff since then, but most of what I learned in school, I have never touched (calculus, op-amps, assembler code, binary trees..) .. the only exception is C. I minored in Economics, and enjoyed the subject a great deal. The company I currently work for is small, they probably do not need an MBA. The degree would basicly make me more appetizing for other companies in the future. As I have not done any technical development over the past two years, most of what I do now is validating the work of other Engineers, and other administrative tasks. Anyway, since they probably don't need an MBA, they are unlikely to pay for one!! My grades in school were decent, but nothing to write home about, so barring spectacular GMAT scores, I am not likely to be accepted into the top-tier programs. Hope this helps!

  2. Two Words: EM Pulse!!! on Do You Have Your 'Crisis Week'? · · Score: 1

Forget the old 1950's nuclear drills where our parents all had to hide under their desks when the air-raid siren sounded. We all know that the true threat from a nuclear attack is the EM pulse, which fries all active electronics in a hundred miles radius! If a nuclear bomb hit NJ tomorrow, it would be 2 minutes before I would be at the computer store to stock up on PC's to replace all the fried ones! Maybe a few extra to trade for valuable life-giving water in the post-apocalyptic wasteland that was once called "America"...

Also, we could stockpile large amounts of vitamins C and E to protect us from all the free radicals smashing apart my fragile cells. I'm submitting the proposal to my supervisor straight away! - Kengineer

  3. Web Browser History, Stupid! on EFF Makes Call For DMCA Help · · Score: 1

Consider the scenario where you are a paying member for a web site, say for news articles or some other form of content, whatever it may be. Remember, when you download off the web with your browser, the files get saved in your Temporary Internet Files. You can go back through your browswer's History folder when you have the Work Offline feature enabled, to view these. I do this often, when I don't feel like wrestling with AT&T Worldnet's crappy dial-up lines to get a decent connection; it is far simpler for me to work offline via my browser's history if I know exactly what I'm looking for, and do not need to querry the web site for any further information. You can see where I'm going with this - it means that EVERYONE's browser is violating this statute, if they have ANY data caching turned on! My dumb browser went and copied all that content onto my hard drive without even asking me. You see, even my stupid computer understands the concept of fair use better than some judges I could mention. Kengineer
