  1. Relaxing is subjective on "World's Most Relaxing Music" Composed · · Score: 2

For years I have been listening to music my wife refers to as "screaming hell music." I don't know the exact genre but I guess you could call it metalcore. I find this far more relaxing than "Enya" and have been sleeping (headphones so as to not disturb the wife) to this for years.

  3. Re:How secure... on Wine HQ Password Database Compromised · · Score: 1

Better ideas? No. I don't. But then again, I'm not a network administrator in charge of a system that just had a massive security breach. I would've thought that having procedures in place for something like this would be part of a system / network administrators job. If even a lowly, green-behind-the-ears tech can see that your "email passwords in plain text" idea is lacking thorough planning, then something is wrong. My first reaction to this would have been to disable all accounts until a better idea is formed instead of going with a response to a security breach that has obvious security flaws of its own. Yes it would be inconvenient for the userbase, but it'd be better than half-assing it, which is likely how they got into this situation in the first place.

is sending out passwords via mass email in plain text? No wonder they had their system compromised.

  5. Re:Simple rule of thumb on Behind the Scenes: How Conflict Photographs Come To Be · · Score: 4, Insightful

I was going to say that if those in the photo are unaware the picture was being taken then it isn't staged, but on second thought, the framing of the photo, the time at which the photo is taken, the angle and placement of the photo, what is cropped out or left in the frame, all of these things are left up to the photographer to decide. So yes, I would agree that even photos where the participants are unaware the picture is being taken can be called staged. The photographer is staging the photo by leaving our or including certain details.

  6. We are the 99% but... on Ask Slashdot: How Do You View the Wall Street Protests? · · Score: 1

only 48% of us vote when eligible. Am I part of the 99%? Maybe, but I'd rather be considered part of that 48%. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that people are getting riled up and ready to make their presence felt and I agree with everything they're saying, but my question is, where were the other 51% on voting days? I am 26, have +50k in student loans, but I have voted in every major election since I turned 18. I'd much rather see "Occupy the Voters Booths!" then "Occupy Wallstreet."

  7. Money well spent... on FCC Wants To Shift Phone Subsidy Funds To Broadband · · Score: 1

Don't get me wrong, I understand that the internet is a great learning tool, but "If we want the United States to be the world’s leading market for innovation" then we should focus more on our failing test scores in the school systems. Giving children access to the internet is not going to suddenly spur their interest in schoolwork and it certainly isn't going to make their parents sit down and do homework with them. Pushing billions of dollars so that everyone can get to facebook faster isn't going to teach math and science, it isn't going to magically create jobs like they kept referring to in the article (without really soundly saying HOW it was going to create jobs), and I really feel that money would be better spent if it were directly funneled into the school systems.
