Umm, actually, you have the wrong fellow.

That's not my last name, it's only my handle.

Oh, and I don't have a dog, and I never had.. and I'm nowhere near rich.

Oops, sorry.. We are actually running WorldGroup now, as it's called. MajorBBS was the DOS version. For the later versions of the software, Galacticomm called it WorldGroup, due to some new client/server code. The client/server stuff flopped horribly, by the way, as noone really cared to use it.. but the rest of the board still ran fine.

Go ahead and check it out.. as long as our bandwidth holds out, and the 256 user limit (at at time) isn't reached, we can accept new users.

We are listed as The Motherboard BBS (http://pfarm.hostnet.net/203/) and are still running.. and still getting better.

We are running MajorBBS with a 256 user copy.. We have all the forum addons, entertainment teleconference, MajorMUD, games, and WorldLink.

We used to cost $10 a year. Now we are free.

We used to have 25 phone lines. Now we are connected to the internet.

We used to fill up our phone lines (25) at peak hours.. now, well.. we don't fill up the 256 user limit, but I wish we did!

Feel free to telnet to mboard.com and make a free account. It's on us! :)

I like the linked mini-story snippet. It makes for a good read. Check it out!

  5. Program Failure on Fastest Commercial Supercomputer To Be Built · · Score: 1
One problem that hopefully the engineers have designed the system to prevent would be a program that crashes may destabilize part (or maybe in whole) the network that the computers communicate over. One bad program corrupting something and crashing, lets say, could wreck months worth of work. And it would be months, too.. it mentions that many of the computations can take that long to finish.

Reminds me of the Hitchhiker's guide.. instead of the Vogons, wouldn't it have been pathetic if the Earth (the most powerful supercomputer in the universe) had an Exception 0E error instead?

  6. How low can you go? on U.S. Allows Sale of Half-Meter Satellite Photos · · Score: 2

The article mentions a few sample resolutions, including a 10 centimeter resolution that would allow you to "resolve 'the rivet lines on bomber aircraft.'" How detailed can these pictures be? I mean, could they spin Hubble around, refocus, and snap the shutters a few times, or do you really need more specialized equipment? At some point, most likely, the limits will be due to heat rising from objects blurring things, or air molecules getting in the way... etc.

  7. ASP on 4 Web Scripting Languages Compared · · Score: 1
ASP is becoming very popular with web businesses these days. The ability to use seperate scripting languages within the ASP spec definately helps it along.

The speed of ASP is decent, and you can do a lot with it. Besides, companies are paying big chunks of change to those people they hire (and large signing bonuses) to do the programming. If you'd like to beef up your resume, I'd suggest learning ASP is a great way to get ahead of others who don't know it.
