For those of us in the Twin Cities...well we have a little treat comming up next week. A group going by minnesot electronic theatre is holding a event in minneapolis next wednesday (nov 8, 2000).....why do you care...
well greg uhler and mike brown (vp and senior animator respectively at presto) will be talking about how "cutting edge tech and the artistic mind merge". I can only assume that they will be concentraing how they hav used these approaches to create the latest sequel in the myst realm.
This might be an opp. for us lucky locals to check out some new stuff from myst.
This event appears to be quite interesting...lots of animation and new media innovators. Very pretty website to.
this isn't the only dangerous jump that has been conducted in the last couple of years
actually sometime back in '97 several very experienced skydivers decided to do a very high altitude jump over antartica.....
however bravado got in the way and none of them used automatic releases for thier chutes (where an altimiter trigers the release) or carried altimiters
due to the overcast conditions and well the simple lack of contrast between sky and ground out there in iceville.....several of them died when they tunneled straight into the snow without even having deployed thier chutes.....they simply had no idea the ground was even comming and eneded up 30 feet deep.
so when will we see the first interplanetary (or at least surface to ISS) gamming...i wonder if the astronauts are allowed to bring any sort of entertainment.....it has already been stated that some of the first commercial ventures into space will involve somesort of ground based multimedia project.
This will only apply for some time...after a signifigant period of time in space (or at least off earh) alternate setups will begin to exist that do not require immediate ties to the society of economy on earth. May sound far fetched but who would have thought that America would break off and stand free from the monarchy.
