I agree; before I moved on to consulting I worked for a large insurance company. They did not care if I worked all night long to bring the system up the next morning, I had better be there (with the rest of the company) from 8am to 4:30pm. No exceptions.
I worked my rear off on Y2K code conversion. I got not so much as a t-shirt out of it. All I got was "This better work" from our f*ck*ing VP of IT.
