I mean, really, the Mac only has one (annoying!) widget toolkit, it doesn't know what a "console" is; if you want a shell, you have to get some third-party GUI app! And if something goes wrong... uh-oh, it's a cute little bomb, and you didn't restart your mac properly, did you? Silly user, it's all your fault.
You make his point very well. Mac users DO NOT WANT a console: They want to get work done Multiple widget toolkit's have increased usability how? For the most part- why do you care how the machine crashed if you aren't going/are unable to do anything about it (ie- a musician is unlikly to scour source code... a crash is a pain the rear in any operating system, and please don't tell me linux doesn't EVER crash.)
Posting to Slashdot, thinking that you are staying private is both naive and I beleive (IANAL) that you have lost that right by posting here. Celebrities do not OWN pictures taken of them in public, nor quotes of what they said in public. If they are misquoted, then there is a problem. Newspapers sell the quotes (indirectly) all the time. Posting here is intent to widely distribute. I would also argue that saying more people are going to buy this book than read the slashdot posts will make someone REALLY rich as a publisher but that might be a bit unrealistic
mtDNA and aging of nuclear DNA are not linked events/objects. While the rest of what you say is true- there is a bit of controversy in the field about how much it matters and whether or not it can be overcome. Work in mice get differant results than the work in sheep- leading to the question of whether or not it is a global truth.
Nothing contributed by the mtDNA makes it to the surface of the cell- thus there is no contribution by the mtDNA to anything that is linked to rejection. Thus- cloning is still a viable step in the fixing of genetic diseases (except those carried in mtDNA)
If you went into biotech for the money- you were screwed from the beginning. JOBS are available, just many/most of them are at companies not at universities. Trying to find qualified post docs takes awhile.
The computer field will always be bigger (#'s and salary wise)- as everybody needs computers- whereas only biotech companies/ universities need biotech people.
Different case in the US. Time from graduation to job- 2 days. Wife now switches jobs from biotech company to biotech company whenever bored/money required. This with "only" a bachelors. now I am a grad student, and we get job offers a lot, none of us are going to get rich though....
