I seem to remember reading somewhere (MaximunPC?)that Pentiums class processors have Error Correction curcuits that correct firmware coding in the CPU package it self, so it is possible that somehow the cpu can adjust to it's operation.
In general,concerning semi-conductors,Burn in "pre-stresses" the pathways of the device.
I have built electronic gear that has failed (did'nt perform as expected)
without a burn in.
