  1. Common Criteria Certification! on Ask a LinuxWorld Exhibitor · · Score: 2, Informative

When will the various Linux distributers (RH, SuSE, Oracle?, etc) pitch in to get it Common Criteria certified, so I can use it in the DOD? I am sick of having to get waivers and justify non Windows software within the DOD. On requirements that require 64-bit computing such as Oracle, I can justify Sun systems, but for smaller needs I am fighting a hard battle due to no (granted lab environment) CC ratings on Linux.

    Thanks

  2. Same Problems on IBM DeskStar 75GXP Hard Drive Failures? · · Score: 1

I've had the same problems - clicks of death, not only on my home drive, but also on several at work (all 45GB models).

I replaced it with a new Seagate Barracuda IV 40GB drive - 1 platter, two heads. As simple as you can get - and my bet, very reliable, like most Seagate products.

    No more IBM 3.5" drives.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, I don't buy from you!

Could we get a recall on these with the FTC?

  3. Re:$3500 - it must be *really* nice... on New IBM Linux Notebook Includes DVD Player · · Score: 1

What would be really nice, is if IBM would allow us T2x owners to dl or purchase their special Caldera version with all the special IBM drivers, etc. I called purchasing and tech support and was told that there was absolutely no way to purchase this. IBM sort of supports linux, but only if you purchase a laptop with it pre-installed. Darn it. Bryan

How do we get these people some more Ataris? Maybe we could even send them some floppy drives with them as an upgrade. Way to go! Use what works, and only upgrade when you need to. What's the address?

  5. Exactly on Do Media Companies Have Copyright Wrong? · · Score: 1

You should own a right to use the content, not the media it is on. Of course, that is the debate, how to sell a right of use, and how to track an verify it. Music (usually) cost much less than software, and home users aren't going to bothered with registering music when you buy it. So how do you effectivly track and verify what a user has, so they could "upgrade" to a directors cut, remix, or whatever.
