MAP wasn't the first attempt to prevent low-price competition. Repeat the Beat in Detroit is a really good used-CD store, and they had to fight the music industry over a similar issue: No advertising money would get shared for any ad that mentioned used CDs. They ultimately won their anti-trust fight. I don't mind paying for CDs, but $17 for a $1 piece of plastic is a little too much markup for my tastes.
But this is America! People here act out their fantasies. Please/. don't promote this terrible
so-called art. It's a disgrace.
Objecting to anime because of a grotesque series is like objecting to movies because of porno.
There are many perfectly innocent anime titles or series (Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, and Card Captor are easy to find) that the whole family can enjoy. Go rent a few.
Akira is a landmark animated film. The animation quality is very high (especially the effects animation). Crank it up with a good sound system, and if the DVD is any good, the opening scenes as motorcycles whip through Tokyo will be awesome (and the tank battles, and Kaneda dueling with a laser cannon from his bike...). Hopefully, the DVD will also offer Akira letterboxed. (A letterboxed VHS was released, but briefly).
Of course, you have to watch the thing at least twice to figure out what the heck is going on, and there may have been more recent movies that people like better, but Akira is still one of the better titles after all these years.
It would be a novel change if some of the censorware were honest and added the categories "They're mean to us", "Just 'cause", and "Your 10-year old is too clever by half".
