Second, how do you define 'Linux' applications? Can you be more specific about "sharing between OSes" and "barrier"? If "sharing" means
portability, then Mozilla, Zope, Apache, MySQL etc already have Windows ports.
Binary compatibility is not that important when
you have the source code.
Why WINE is more useful is because most Windows applications are not open-source.
