If QChem is your bag, you might want to look at GAP (Groups, Algorithms, and Programming) here. The license isn't quite GPL, but it's not too hostile either.
Good idea; you could throw a pair of them (or more?) into that MP3 mixer/scratcher that runs on BeOS (see previous slashdot article) and leave the processor free to do effects(?) I am not a sound guru, so maybe that's not technically feasable, but it would certainly make a powerful piece of equipment.
Well, some people like listening to their music while doing other tasks, and the strain of decoding is formiddable yet on a large number of machines. I could thus see some market, provided it wasn't prohibitively expensve. Try running some Maple code while playing an MP3 on a plain Pentium; one quickly learns to just give up and go back to CDs...
Oh, but so much more too. I did an internship at PPPL last summer (where the NSTX is located) and took some classes. One of the classes was on the heating systems, and the professor noted that the microwave power was equivalent to some 10k household microwaves, or enough to "nuke a Holstein cow in about 10 seconds." I think this was referring to the TFTR; I am pretty sure they've increased the heating capacity for the NSTX.
Nuclear Fusion: advances in energy and reducing cooking time!
Attached below is the letter I sent to the feedback address. I tried to exhibit politeness in this letter; I hope that if you do write them as well (please do!) that you will approach them in a level-headed manner. The "advocacy" mentioned in the news.com article won't mean a damn thing in the future if it's associated with a angry-mob mentaility.
To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to add my voice of concern to the many you have already received regarding your dispute with the owners of the veronica.org domain. It seems unconscionable to lay claim to anything containing the common name of a character in your publication -- a name which can be traced etymologically for centuries.
Have you sued Hanna-Barabara for their use of the name "Betty" in "The Flintstones"? These two characters have peacefully coexisted for the last three decades; certainly your Veronica and this child can too.
I hope that this debacle can resolved amicably, and I encourage you to cease your legal threats against the Sams. Thank you for your time to consider this message.
