I recently ran the tool and it detected a "CnsMin (Browser Hijacker)". Not thinking about it too much I ran the repair and it reset Internet Explorer to my default Browser instead of Firefox.
Makes you wonder what MS features will end up in the final release of this tool.
Has the thought be given to improving email client software so that it filters SPAM rather then having ISPs and Network Administrators do it. It's the same as filtering junk Mail I get weekly. It's never going to go away 100% but you eventually notice a pattern of what it looks like and apply rules in your head when you use it. If an easy system like a "This is Spam" button and it asked what makes it spam you could say the subject, part of the body, or who it was from and your smart client could remember that. Combine this with all the wonderful spam technologies out there then we've got something.
If we were going to get rid of SMTP then something that provided assured delivery would be very nice to investigate. Standards that would allow you to make sure you email gets there and if it was tampered with on the way (some hashing comes to mind). I know there are ways to do some of this now, but if we're looking towards the future that's a place I would start, security and delivery assurance. In that you could easily provide better definitions of the sender and require them. Then this would require "SPAMMERS" to have that information so your smart client could block them more easily.
Unfortunately somebody would find a way to send spam out even if there is a change. There's always a way, and somebody always finds it, it is just a matter of time...
