  1. Need to Blow Stuff Up! on Part One: Up, Up, Down, Down · · Score: 1
Due to all these morals and civility that we practice today, it is no wonder so many people like gaming.

Since I can't hunt a mastadon, nor pillage and plunder, I have to do it on my computer! Everyone needs a outlet for blowing stuff up, it is part of being human. Beside, I'm too old to be blowing up my neighbors mailboxes while my stupid friends videotape it...

  2. Simulations? 100% accurate? on What Happens When 99% of the Net Crashes? · · Score: 1
Recent computer simulations have shown that the Internet is fairly resilient because it is scale-free.

Whew, I was worried there for a minute, but since computer simulations have proved everything is ok, I can rest easy.

BLAH! The fact is that we don't know what could really happen until it does, simulations bite. That is the beauty of anything concerning humans, we always add a little chaos to the picture...

  3. Too Young? on Linus Torvalds Announces Autobiography · · Score: 1
I don't think you have to be a certain age to write an autobiography, whenever you have achievements to talk about, go for it!

In this day and age, you could be burned out by age 30, so you should write your book as soon as possible... Can you say Netscape founder? Who? Exactly!

  4. They are robbing me! on On Asteroid Mining · · Score: 1
According to this deed I bought from Ebay for $19.95, I own 10 square inches of NEO 3554 Amun! I demand that these crazy NASA people stop trying to steal my piece of the rock pie!

Hmmm.... let's see, trillions of dollars / 2 kilometers / 10 square inches = $19.94! Doh, I got ripped off!

But seriously, does anyone see the interesting mind set of Prof Lewis saying that space if good because of its infinite resources... Just because it's there doesn't mean we should try and use up as much as we can..

Besides, poor Mr. T's gold chains would be seriously devalued, I wouldn't be able to take him seriously anymore if he is just wearing worthless chains!

  5. Why Are We Surprised? on FBI Releases More Carnivore Information · · Score: 1
Why is everyone so shocked at this "outrageous" behavior? The FBI and other government agencies are doing things like this all over the place.

Giving Americans cancer for research purposes, capturing radio transmissions, listening in all all kinds of information transfer, this is nothing new.

I'm sure there are lots more things that we don't know about. Maybe Carnivore has been around for a lot longer in a more primitive form, capturing passwords, emails and other dubious info.

What people should realized is that maybe the paranoid people out there aren't paranoid, maybe everyone else is just too naive. I think people put too much faith in their government and assume it will take care of them and respect them as individuals. People want to believe that the government will handle all the problems of the world and will allow certain rights to privacy to be taken away to get this safety net. Do you really think those millions of AOL subscribers care that their email may be read?

Apathy is a common problem in the US these days and I don't think we should be surprised to learn that someone is trying to do some sneaky things to citizens who don't really care anyway.

Probing into big bangs? What kind of smut book is this? Are they talking about the Houston500?

  8. VC going to be out soon on Rethinking the Virtual Community: Part Four · · Score: 1
What is going on here? Doesn't everyone know the Sims online version is going to be sold soon. I can have my friends over and I won't have to worry about them farting in front of my wife!

I can hardly wait, I'll be able to work on my promotions, relationships, cooking skills and all kinds of other stuff without leaving my chair. I can visit with friends, or send them home if they get too crazy. Of course there is still the question of what I'm going to do with all my real world relationships, jobs, etc... Maybe I can see if my boss will let me build the business on my computer and just run it from there! I can be assured of record profits in simoleons!!

News Flash: This just in! Scientists discover an entire virtual community already in place with billions of users. They have created a new word for this strange and exotic place where almost anything goes. They call it..... EARTH!
