I worked a contract 2 years ago that allowed me complete control over my schedule. By the end of the year, I had adopted the same policy of no alarm clock to wake up with. In addition, I worked as long as I felt productive. Then I went off and distracted my brain with some mild entertainment, then when I was tired, I went to sleep. Over the course of about a month, my schedule stabilized into about 10 hours of sleep, about 12-14 of productive work with a couple of 1 hour breaks for meals, followed by about 4-6 hours of diversion. Basically, 30 hour days. I didn't take a day off for the last 3 months, and had been doing only 1 "weekend" day after every 5 days for the months before that.
I was more productive and better rested than I think I have ever felt before or since. I assume everyone has a different rhythm their body would shift to if allowed, I am curious if anyone else has done this, and what their experience was like.
There is exactly and only ONE way that this ballot could be inturpreted. It can not be inturpreted in any other way.
So, you've never experienced a visual illusion? Interesting.
Let's look a little again at your statement: There is exactly (whoops, you accidentally skipped a word here I think: "ONE") and only ONE way that this ballot could be inturpreted (whoops, you accidentally misspelled a word here). It can not be inturpreted(Well, at least you are consistent) in any other way.
Not to be too picky, but your diatribe does not address the original poster's claims, which are that there are several theories explaining how the ballot could be misinterpreted.
Not really. Most will vote for who ever seems more likely to favor giving us a raise, which is usually republician.
Unfortunately, I don't have time to dig this information up again. However, and the data is out there, publicly available.
Since 1980:
1) A Democrat controlled congress met or exceeded Reagan's and Bush's proposed payrolls for military every single year of his administration. At the end of this period, after adjusting for inflation, military pay was down over 10% (I don't remember the exact number) from 1980.
2) A Democrat controlled congress met Clinton's proposed military payroll, resulting in a reversal of the trend. Pay adjusted for inflation went up for the first time in 12 years, but remained below 1980 equivalent.
3) After the Republican revolution, Clinton's payroll recommendations were *never* met. Clinton proposed more than the Republican's were willing to pay (even though their overall military spending exceeded his proposal).
The result is that in the year 2000, military pay adjusted for inflation was down almost 16% from 1980. This 16% is an average, and doesn't reflect the real damage done at the junior NCO and enlisted levels. Officers (especially aviators) did better.
These numbers take into account the shadow accounting done with COLA and housing allowances.
Let me remind you why the military will *not* be voting for gore:)
Ummm.... how do you suggest that he adjust the sling on his M16, that he is carrying (implied in the URL) in Vietnam? That appears to be what he is doing, am I mistaken?
I just checked my wallet, and yes... the "Armed Forces of the United States Identification Card" is still there. And I distinctly remember not voting for Gore, although he was my second choice.
Voting for Bush, was just not an option. At great taxpayer expense, he was trained to fly, yet only maintained flight status for 22 months. He stopped taking flight physicals when they started testing for drugs. He cannot provide any evidence that he fulfilled his military obligation. There appears to be good reason to believe that he just skipped out.
But, I don't think your preconception of how the military feels about Gore, or votes in general is consistent with reality. Right behind my military ID is my ACLU membership card. There are Greenpeace and Amnesty International patches sewn to my helmet bag. When asked, I self-identify as very liberal. I support programs like a single-payer health insurance system and broadly implemented anti-pollution measures. And while I have the opportunity, as a cog in the machinery of the war on drugs, I am an opponent of that disaster.
I recognize that I do not represent the whole of the military, and that the military is slightly more conservative than the general population. But that does not mean that everyone in the military is blindly right-wing.
Dave
p.s. After serving substantially longer than my commitment, I am now in the Individual Ready Reserve, of my own choice. I don't think it matters, they own my body for a while longer, but I know some people will draw a distinction, and I don't want to create a false impression.
Geez. I know confronting this guy with facts is useless.
When I voted almost 2 weeks ago, during early voting in Texas, apparently this same guy, or his mental twin started out in line just ahead of me. I was going through the same thought process that you appear to have gone through, when the young lady behind me, said "Excuse me, but you aren't aloud to discuss election issues while in line." About the time she had finished her statement, a frail little woman of about 70 years had rounded her table, and was quietly explaining to the gentleman that she could and would have him removed if he did not follow the rules. His response was not polite.
I am a little embarassed to admit that I didn't even consider asking the guy to be quiet., I was too busy being annoyed and coming up with smartass responses that I had no intention of actually verbalizing.
As I walked out of the building after voting, he was politely making his case to a guy with a clipboard. I wonder if he made it back inside to vote.
Dave
p.s. I only flew the dark green helicopters, and I quit doing that when they cancelled the Cold War.
How about the fact that he hasn't had a drink in 14 years? It's hard to have a DUI without drinking.
This is a good argument, but the original assertion was no incidents in the last 20 years, not the last 14. And by Bush's own accounts, his drinking was heaviest just before he stopped.
Of course, if you like Gore and hate Bush, it doesn't really matter what anyone has to say about it.
For the record, I am not so fond of Gore, and have worked hard against his election. And it does matter. This campaign has been based on lies and partial-truths spread by both sides. In this instance, Bush's camp is hoping that the assumption made by the original poster, that this was an isolated incident, will be made by everyone.
In the meantime, they refuse to be forthcoming, to questions about other DUIs as well as questions about other infractions of the law.
Over 20 years with no further incident. Seems like he would qualify.
Seems like...except that he has never said that there has been no further incident... in fact, he has refused to answer that question.
