You jest, but I can't count the number of times I heard the rational for continuing to breast feed toddlers as "It feels good". When you have someone suck your nipples because you think it feels good, it IS a sexual act. Since my own child was born, I have met many women that really should be arrested for child molestation.
If breastfeeding is a sexual act, then it didn't just happen; it's been that way as long as there has been a human race. Why would you all of a sudden start throwing people in jail for it now?
I'm not puritanical, religious or a prude and I have a healthy taste for porn; but I don't want pictures of nursing women thrust at me. I don't understand why it's necessary to show everyone?
I admit that I don't use social networking sites, but I find this surprising. Does facebook now have a feature in which your monitor grows arms, puts those Clockwork Orange things in your eyes and forces you to view certain pictures? I guess that's as good of a reason as any to not visit that site.
It may not be obscene, but nobody wants to see it! Nobody really wants your saggy titties or your screaming stinking brat around anyway! GTFO!
You're right. The world is full of things I don't want to see; they're everywhere! Clearly the solution is the entire world must reconfigure itself so that I never see anything I don't want to look at.
Every store should stop stocking things that I don't want to buy. All art that I don't like should be destroyed. Every person that I don't like should be shipped to another planet. Every place that I don't want to visit should be nuked. All people on earth (those that are left, anyway) who want to speak should be required to first verify that I want to hear what they are saying first....or...
If you don't want to see it, DONT FUCKING LOOK AT IT!
Or you could just hang your clothes on clothe line to dry. You know, like in the good old days...
That really depends on your climate. Where I grew up, the summers would routinely reach 90+ temperature and humidity. Trying to use a clothesline then would take all day.
I belive sexual readiness has a psychological component which does not necessarily correspond to the physiological component.
I agree with this. My arguement is that the proposal I outlined is better than a arbitrary age, not that it is perfect.
I complete proposal should have a lot more depth to it. If you drop the notion that all sex involving minors is always causes horrible, permanent damage then you can start to make some more reasonable laws. Right now every offense automatically equals "off with his head!!!". It's OK to have both major and minor violations.
I'd like to see prostitution both legalized and placed under moderately strict requirements. We have requirements on many things such as consumption of alcohol, practicing law, and so on. I believe a reasonable set of restrictions can be crafted on prostitution that will create a better environment for sex workers than the one we have currently.
I built a phase splitter (early picture here [banishedsouls.org] and it weighs more than 100 pounds) to covert the generator's 120 volt output to split phase 240 volts
For the love of (god|allah|satan|joe the plumber) please get a real transformer. If the lines coming off your generator are L1 and L2, then connect X2 and X3 in the transformer and hook L1 to X1 and L2 to X4.
Connect H2 to H3 and use this as the (grounded) neutral. H1 and H4 are you two "hot" wires.
The 15kW units don't power the whole house, but more than enough to be liveable - you should get your Furnace, Air Conditioning (power goes out in the summer too), kitchen, basic computers & internet service, a couple of bedrooms and a TV/etc. working comfortably
That would depend on exactly how your house is configured. Heating, water heater, clothes dryer and stove could be gas or electric. If all of those were gas, then 15 KW should be more than enough for all your other loads.
If you take your electric bill and divide kilowatt-hours by the number of hours in the billing cycle then you would get your average consumption. That would be a good starting point when you decide on a generator rating.
Bottom line: Permanent home backup generators can be purchased for $3000 - $6000 + installation labor.
If you have natural gas available then I highly recommend using it for your backup generator, since outages are very rare and you won't ever need to worry about storing fuel.
If you house is like most, then your incoming service is 100 amp/220 split-phase. This means that a ~22 KW generator would give you 100% backup, but really most people don't use more than 80% of their service, so this setup should provide full capacity backup for almost anyone. If that's not enough, then move up to the 30 KW model. Kohler makes generators big enough to power your entire neighborhood if you are willing to buy it.
Wiring is not difficult, but depending on your experience level and your desire to obey the local electrical code, you should consider hiring a licensed electrician.
They were acting based on the implicit government backing that comes from dealing with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. That guarantee made these securities look like gold. Had they not had the government incentive to throw caution to the wind, they would have judged these securities for what they were.
They also got paid by the people they were rating, which creates an obvious incentive for security creaters to "shop around" for the hignest rating, not necessarily the most accurate rating.
Since we deny freedoms to the "other people" to support the interests of the "productive people", its not entirely unfair to ask the "productive people" to pay something to care for the "other people".
Do you really mean "ask", or is that a euphemism for "legally require"?
Cases like this are the exception, the law already has a precedent for dealing with it. Under current law, sex with some mentally incapacitated people is rape regardless of their age.
The point at which the individual is biologically ready to reproduce.
Bah. In other words, you just advocate eliminating the age of consent completely if those are the only grounds for finding rape.
I should have been more clear. The rape criteria for minors above the age of consent would be the same as the rape criteria for adults. Sex with persons below the age of consent is still statutory rape.
Again, I'm not sure a 8-10 year old can give consent. I'm not sure that most 16 year olds understand the decisions they are making. I'm not even sure that some adults can understand... but that is another point altogether LOL.
There is plenty of historical evidence that human beings are capable of making responsible decisions at a young age.
Our current society is increasingly not creating responsible adults, much less children.
I believe that protecting people from the consequences of their actions is the root cause of all of this. Maybe some kind of social safety net is necessary, but the one we have now has gone too far.
Now that I think about it, you seem to be asking for the justification for having property rights in the first place. I'll take a shot at that one also.
Every living creature on the planet must gather certain substances in order to sustain life. This is a fundamental fact of all life, including human life.
Inevitably, two living entities will desire to use an exclusive resource at some point in their lives. Most living creatures resolve the conflict via force.
The alternative to force is cooperation: the use of resources is governed by mutually agreed-upon transactions.
So I guess the next step is to show that cooperation is better than force.
Now what about external objects? What about property
We'll have to work this one backwards. Property is obtained via mutually agreed-upon transfer from the old owner to the new owner.
Everything that is owned must have originally been un-owned (or created from something else that was owned). So there must be a process for the first owner to gain ownership of something that is unowned.
The best answer I can come up with is that the first user of an unowned property gains ownership.
My point is that if we're going to start arguing over who needs to prove what, then fine: we can start at the lowest point first and move on from there.
Every person owns their body..
Ownership means the exclusive right to control property.
Property rights are absolute, except when the right of one person infringes on the right of another person
All transfer of property or the use of property between person must be voluntary agreed to by all parties (no use of force)
All other rights are derivatives from the basic ownership of one's body. Freedom of speech, association, etc. are assumed because you own your body and have the right to exclusively control it, until your action infringes on someone else's rights.
Almost nobody is without food or shelter as a result of their own decisions.
At a street corner near my workplace, there is this (presumably homeless) guy that continually hold up a sign "need a hamburger and a beer".
I know for a fact that jobs are easy to come by (even now) in this city. I also know that my boss actually offered this man a job (janitor) but he refused.
Perhaps the majority of hungry and homeless people throughout the nation are truly victims of circumstance. But right here in a city where full time jobs are easy to find and part time jobs practically grow on trees I can't find a lot of sympathy for someone who would rather beg than work and refuses employment when it is offered.

Agreed.
In the right conditions, a 9 volt battery can put 10 mA through your heart
I have a furnace at work that is fed from a 3" line running at 35 psi...
I was being optimistic is assuming mostly natural gas appliances. Probably because I've always preferred gas to electric.
If I owned a house, I'd still go with a 22 or 30 just-to-be-sure.

Bitter much?
You normally get the best deals on Christmas lights the day after Christmas

Don't steal from other people in order to achieve your social goals.

But you might have regulation that requires a firewall or third-party organization.
