Now they can use this as an excuse when they tell the public that their old DVD players are now useless and they have to buy new ones with whatever new copy protection scheme they come up with. They can try to blame everything on the evil "pirates" and avoid the adverse public reaction.

The Diamond Monster Sound MX-300 supports SPDIF output if you buy the $40 addon card. I do not know if this is true Dolby Digital, though.
