  1. we need to *feel* the music on Study Links Personal Music Players To Hearing Loss · · Score: 1

Not a scientist by any means, but am fairly certain that many headphone wearers crank up the volume inappropriately high in a pointless, unconscious bid to "feel" the music, as one does via speakers or at concerts.

Besides the obvious solution posited by a few numbnuts here- turn down the volume- I would argue this problem will only lessen the day some kind of personal sub-woofer is invented. Sounds silly/impossible, granted, but until that happens many of will continue punishing our ears unthinkingly as we strive to precisely reproduce the rich, chest-thumping sounds of our stereo systems....

  2. ogg vorbis rox on Universal Wants a Slice of Apple's iPod Pie · · Score: 1

This is a good thing. The harder the pop music industry pushes, the more acceptable popular, prominent, etc. open source tech solutions will be. and they will thrive. it will not take a work of genius for somebody smarter than me to cook up an affordable, elegant, .ogg media player that will render today's popular devices moot.

and yes, by "elegant" I mean that a brilliant company will capitalize on apple's wonderous style/interface research and fabricate a produkt sufficiently different from best in class ipod to be legal, yet radically flexible, affordable and superior.

like a pair of starbury sneakers: quality and style at an appropriate price.

  3. Lame, needlessly critical article on The Failure of the $100 Laptop? · · Score: 1

Not only is LiquidCoooled totally correct, but furthermore, additional mindshare amongst the public is not being sopped up either! Negroponte's project adds additional attention on the starving 3rd world, an entirely new, positive batch of attention and people being mindful of these nations' plight. While it may be altruistically impractical at this point in time, a supercheap laptop very similar to what MIT designed will ultimately be planted in these kind of nations. Merely a matter of when. And by these risk-takers bravely embarking on such a radical initiative, they help draw the time when this phenom can occur, increasingly closer to now.

Negative nellies that have condemned this initiative are merely myopic knuckleheads lacking in both vision and practical intelligence.

  4. yopy? on COMDEX and Linux Handhelds · · Score: 1

It seems Samsung's Yopy was conspicuously absent from this article. Does anybody know whatever happened to this fabulous, seemingly miracle machine? see more on this sexy little device at: http://www.sem.samsung.com/eng/product/digital/pda / If anybody know where I can get one in US English to test/buy/use let me know! I've been craving one since their initial release date in May

  5. I have a Player, but no letter yet... on Time's Up For Virgin Connect Webplayer · · Score: 1

Glad to see folks are interested in hacking the webplayer. It is/was a sleek, super-simple device. Great for grandmas, provided they lived a local call away from the free dialup number. I'm afraid I am committed to sending it back or face financial ramifications although, given the fairly wretched discombobulated service they've provided thus far I wouldn't be surprised if I don't end up having to send it. Fortunately the thing lacked Flash, which meant my 7 year old www.cartoonnetwork.com loving son hated the little beast.
