My little 93 Geo Metro XFi would still get pretty much the same mileage as the old EPA ratings 51/58. I currently get 57 MPG driving it like a nut. There are a few metros on the road getting 70+mpg on the road right now.
I do a lot of work on computers as well as cars so this is something I have thought of before. Whether trying to get one more frame per second on a game or trying to get an extra 10th of a second off your quarter mile time it all comes down to a techincal area that requires dedication and knowledge in order to be successful at it. I have built computers and modded them for years but have now finally started on trying to build a kit car from scratch. check out My Manta for a shameless plug of my car:p
I don't think the two areas are naturally related other than both are technical areas guys like to get into for speed, whether Mhz or HP it is all about going fast:)
I know I am being overly simple but why not make the copyright law protect a copyright for something like 5 years after it is actively published. That way nobody or no corporation can just sit on a copyright without offering it for sale to the public but anyone who is selling their work will not lose the copyright to that material until after they abandon it. No corporation would be able to sit on a large archive of past work without offering a choice to consumers who would like to buy things if they were available.
