This really reminds me of the current notion to equip every existing console app with a gui interface.
Without the gui, the program was useful, but with it, it looks cool. I think the same thing applies to a 3d gui interface..... it doesnt perform half as well now, but hey-- that's one kikass looking skin!
Yeh, but are 3 dimensions VISUALLY necissary for organization??
For your example, a 2d diagram would suffice:

.. or something like that

uhh.. how much real use will this be? i can just imagine an interactive, 3d version of 'kill.' -- a first-person shooter with a sigkill shotgun.
