The part you are missing about running a server is that don't have to use realms. You can run your own right now for free. You just download the server software and it's a fairly easy setup. I run one on a spare machine for my family. I can see Microsoft cutting that off quickly and setting up a per user license fee. There are endless free mods, skins, and servers to access. None of that fits in to the Microsoft business model. Minecraft is, or was, everything Microsoft is not.
I actually have seen a "Do Not Return to Store" tag in a product. I did return it to the store. My take on it was that the manufacturer doesn't want the store knowing about returns. If every one the store sells gets returned to the store as defective, they aren't likely to order more. Whereas it they are returned to the manufacturer the store will still be happily selling them while wondering why they are losing customers.
As I recall the Amiga and the ST had different specialties. The ST excelled at music and the Amiga at video. While I can't speak for the ST, I saw many Amigas with Toasters still being used for video far into the Windows era.
