Why use JAVA, with poor garbage collection mecanism and not allowing multiple inheritance?
[ ] You know what you are talking about.
[ ] You know that C# is also coming with single
inheritance.
Visual Age is nice if you like to loose control
over your code... at least the "MicroEdition"
has fixed that.
And about jikes: nice for small quick-and-dirty
tests. But I would never ever use it for big
projects. The authors claim that their goal
is to implement the Java Lang Spec as close
as possible. Unfortunately they fail quite often.
Well, so you say "garbage collection is a bad
thing"... maybe you should bring this information to all those software engineering
people; at least to those writing all that books about building software and stuff.
You know, these people keep saying:
"garbage collection is the better thing and
any significant real world project without GC
will encounter serious problems".
There are two possible points of view here:
people doing some realtime stuff; people
in need for maximum performance - people
who definitely should avoid GC
people who have to design large systems;
people who need to think about systems
that are easy to maintain and that will
not end up in a big mess of code - and
those people are definitely doing better
with GC
You see, GC takes a lot of work from your shoulders. Therefore to say that GC is just plain
evil is... well just plain wrong.
About VMs: the Netscape VMs are simply crap. Crashing Netscape with applets is a Netscape problem, not a Java problem.
Some weeks ago there was a very harsh article
about Decode in "Die Zeit" [maybe the best
newspaper in Germany].
It said:
It is simply not true that there was
a genetic isolation in Iceland. The
Island men were travelling around Europe for
hundreds of years.
It is not true that almost every person from
Iceland has a well known family tree going back
hundreds of years.
I think a lot of critics of DeCode think that
this company has just one purpose: to make money.
Stefansson promised to heal one disease (like Cancer) per year! Imagine that. His company
has not produced anything of scientific importance
up to now.
Problem is: doing so costs time [not a big
deal in the open source world] and MONEY. How many
lawyers are reading Slashdot and would be willing
to work for free to help you with the legal stuff?
I am almost sure: there are not many;-(
I see a lot of people in here, talking about
democracy and freedeom of speech. I think that
they are right.
On the other hand, it looks like a lot of this
people do not know much about democracy themselves. Why?
They are blaming the French government for
the decision of a French judge!
Ever heard of "division of powers"? About the difference and the duties of judicative and executive?
Maybe you think that is not important, not
even worth a single post. But: its a very basic
principle in all democratic countries -
and it makes me sad that so many people here seem
to not have idea about it.
What exactly do you complain about? Do you think that it is a bad page because it is loading too fast? What's your point?

Question: how many people do you know that have ever heard of Haskell or ML?
How much time would it take Joe Average to learn Haskell or ML?
