The educational system is where everything that is going wrong today started.
Why should it surprise anyone that government schools largely produce ignorance, apathy, acceptance of government control, and desire for more of it?
Government schools serve none other than the government. Government control and funding of schools have increased inversely porportional to the rate of decline of learning.
So long as education is run by the government, it will continue to decline.
One reason, I think, why geeks and techies are perceived as such a threat, is because we learn largely INDEPENDANTLY of the state-run educational machine. We tend to be free thinkers, and that runs contrary to a government that is lusting after greater and greater power and control.
For instance, I can just say "10th Amendment" on./ (and have in many of my posts) and I've never been asked to clarify... It's the most abused right we have...
Knowledge of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, particularly Amendments 9 and 10 has been supressed. Instead, students are taught how great government "intervention" and "help" is to the "war" on poverty (lost), and the "war" on drugs (also lost). Funding of BOTH those "wars" account for most of the rising tide of confiscatory taxation, and loss of civil liberty.
Before long, there won't be anyone left with the INFORMATION to look at the "war" on poverty and the "war" on drugs and say "the emperor has no clothes".
I'll make this direct accusation now. The Salem, NH police are welcome to try to march down to North Carolina and do something about it:

We can't even SEE the website to judge for ourselves. Even IF the sites were obscene, the police acted without authority to shut them down. Stuff like that has to be determined in court.
It's a no brainer to determine who is the victim, and who the Nazi SS stormtrooper wannabes are.

There is a hysterical wave of ignorant technophobia sweeping this country. Our whole economy now is based on high technology. Few people outside the Tech fields understand it.
This is demonstrated by the fact that the Salem, NH police just HAD to throw in the inmaterial fact that there were "hacker books" in his posession.
Of course, this growing persecution of technical people (geeks) will lead to two things:
1. Economic collapse
2. A dark age
Next thing you know, technicians will be accused of "witchcraft" and burned at the stake along with our cats. It could happen, and in fact, in a sense, it's already happening.
True, there are others. While I'm in favor of sending cop-killers to the chair (as I am in favor of sending ALL murderers to the chair, no exceptions), I also think that crimes comitted by government agents should also be higher crimes.
But who do you send to arrest police? Who will prosecute a corrupt local judge? In fact, in most smaller states and areas, what lawyer will even DEFEND you from such?
As a federal judge, Kaplan not only had the power, but the DUTY to judge the Constitutionality of the DMCA. And it's pretty obvious that there are at least parts of it that conflict with the Constitutions's articles pertaining to patents/copyrights and fair use.
If Kaplan isn't stupid, then the only other option is corrupt. Neither attribute is honorable.
Unfortunately, there are many more Judge Kaplans out there, and that's probably what happened in this case. Some Judge Kaplan rubber-stamped a warrant for the police. Why? Well, the police is never wrong...

It's not possible to slander the police department. You can, however, slander specific police officers, but that's a civil matter. According to the law, you can be sued, but not arrested for slander.
It was taken down so that we couldn't judge it for ourselves. That's why there is a 1st amendment... But it doesn't matter of the police and courts are so corrupt as to ignore it.
Hoard your guns people, because armed citizens, ultimately, is the only check and balance that forces the government to obey the law.
Sadly, this isn't the USA anymore... We are becoming more closed minded, more superstitious, and authoritarian.
