There are many companies out there looking for testers that can code, often unsuccesfully. So if you can code are are happy to do test automation you could potentially have a strong advantage. Many testers are not coders, they don't always have to be, but as a result it puts uber techie/developers in a stronger position if they are looking for a testing type role.
