I switched to Dvorak almost two years ago. At first the switch was completely cold turkey. I carried my Kinesis Dvorak keyboard around with me everywhere.
Just recently (past three months) I've gone dual keyboard. I can type on either system now.
I've found that my speed is about the same on either layout. However I'm faster on my Kinesis because of the improved ergo features. IE the keys are arranged in columns rather than on the diagonals, and the keyboard is concave, because fingers are not all the same length.
The part that I lke the most is that I don't have to move my fingers as much. Having a home row that consists of "aoeuidhtns" vs "asdfghjkls" is great.

I work for a wireless phone provider. One of my duties includes the keeping an eye on whether or not we have enough numbers. I also represent my company in matters regarding new areaa codes. Suffice to say, this is a serrious pain in the ass for everyone. Here (Minneapolis/St. Paul) we just split the 612 area code into two, with 651 being the new one, about a year ago. We're already planning to split the 612 again, this time into three pieces. All of these have been/will be geographical splits. All the phone companys are pushing for overlay splits, but the public, and the Public Utilities Commision hate those. A geographical split is where one area has one code, and another has a different one. In a overlay, both codes occupy the same physical areas. IE you and your neighbor may have different area codes. Solution to this? Beats me. But the day is coming where it'll be required to dial 10 digits to make any call. The public will hate it. But there is no way around it. Number Portibility is the new process in which we're hoping to save numbers. You move? Take your phone number with you. No need to issue a new one, or hold your old one for 90 days before reissue. Lots of technical problems involved with this. Not to mention the billing headaches it creates.
I use my moderation points to influence the posts that I would want to read, had some one else moderated them. And of course to filter out the stuff that I don't find intresting or relevant.
That's the way that moderation should work. Generally it does.
If enough people disagree with my moderation, it will get moderated down to -1.
But whatever. I still laughed when I read it. I'm betting that others did too.
Intresting comments from an even more intresting guy.
I got to meet him a the Neal Steaphenson Cryptonomicon book signing here in Minneapolis a couple of months ago.
I got him to sign my copy of Applied Cryptography. The signature was
OJNE EHTY KOOB
Now, how cool is that? Definately seems like the kinda guy I'd like to take out for some beers some time.
Hell, I started spouting off about my plans to wire my vintage telegraph key into my COM port so I could have a 'backup' for my e-mail program. He liked my idea and said to shoot him an e-mail when I get it working, he'd pay me to work up one for him too.
I work for a wireless provider. Hence we have a measurable amount of amateur pharamsuticals, and personal entertainers using our services. This is just a fact.
We've been debating back and forth for about a year and half now with the feds on who's going to buy what equipment.
They're _extremely_ specific on what they want accomplished, and how it should be done.
Heh. Atleast this way, I know if they're monitoring me.;)
His average keyrate for the past 170 days is 6338 KKeys/sec.
That's not nearly consistant with his huge 'spurt' of blocks yesterday.
This is:
A. One of those people that store up a huge number of blocks for a month or so, then send them all in, and bask in the glory of seeing themselves as #1 in the daily rankings.
B. A stats glich, that only affects this one guy.
C. A hack.
Which do you think is correct?
While I'm at it...
Anandtech is averaging 199,219 KKeys/sec. slashdot.org is averageing 731,000 KKeys/sec.
Heh. Lots of luck catching up at those rates. You're only 102,868,204 blocks behind.

I sure wish you?d just quit using what ever POS word processor you use to write your stuff, and switch to edit, edlin, vi, emacs, pico, joe, or a god-damned typewriter. Hell, a telegraph key would be better.
I?m sick and tired of having these fsckin' question marks popping up EVERYWHERE in your articles Jon.
Please fix this. Oh, I?m sticking them in on purpose here. It really is annoying, isn't it?
You'll never be able to use a wireless phone on a plane. Interference worries aside, you'd be broadcasting to umteen sites at once, due to the height.
That's a really bad thing from the service provider's view point. Trust me, it'd hose things up pretty good.
Believe it or not, they exist. ;)
I don't have a link, but Google will set you up I bet.
They switchable between QWERTY and Dvorak, real ergo, and extremely comfy to type on.
Drawback? $250. Trust me, it's time and money well spent.

Didn't Jackie Chan ride one of these down the side of a mountain at the begining of Operation Condor?
Oh, and I think I recal seeinging these on the Real World, with water in 'em. Looked like an endless Slip-n-slide. Sweet.
Simply the best and most comfortable keyboards you can get.
I spent alot of time researching true ergo keyboards, none of thet MS crap thank you. Kinesis wins.
The best feature? They keys are arranged in columns, not on diagonals. Takes some getting used to, but is well worth it.
And if you've got the testicular fortitude, you can get them with the Dvorak keyboard layout.
Between the Dvorak layout, and the better hand positioning, my wrist pain is gone.
Damn it Katz, how long is it going to take you to ditch whatever POS Word (TM) processor you use?
I'm sick and tired of these question marks that pop up everywhere in your articles.

Heck, if even says so in the Moderation intstructions:
Browse at -1 to keep an eye out for abuses.

Ditch that crappy QWERTY board, and get a Dvorak one!
I swear by my Kinesis Ergo. The Dvorak is only half of the benifit, the best part is the REAL ergo layout.
Ever wonder why keyboards are layed out with the keys going diagonal?? Beats me, but it's much more comfy to type on on that is in columns.
Best money I ever spent.
Best way to avoid wrist pain is to get a good keyboard.

I remember when this very thing hit me back when I was in school.
The solution? I killfiled *@aol.com. It was amazing to watch the S/N ration skyrocket.
Did anyone from AOL say anything important that I missed? Doubt it.
Shortly after, killfiled *@netcom.com. Good, but not as big of an effect.
Now? I just use dejanews.com. But even that is bad nowadays, after their crappy redesign.
Happy birthday dude.
And may The Force be with you...always.
Tom's Hardware also has a great OC blurb up right now.
Sweet Jesus is that fast.
Wow. 16 modems?
;)
I work for a GSM provider. If we had one of these suckers driving around, he'd congest our network as soon as he fliped it on.
The only way he'd be able to get all 16 up and running all at the same time is at night in the down town area.
Not to say that this isn't really cool.
