    The article clearly states that the danger from comets is about the same as the the danger from NEOs. For those too lazy to follow the link, or if it gets /.ed, the danger is that a comet could evaporate, leaving lots of dust in Earth's orbit, which would be picked up as we move through it, blocking out the sun and causing an ice age.

    You missed the engineer who was forbidden to work on a particular kind of pump.

    Here is a good example of trade secrets being used as patents. If the stuff was patented, then the ex-employee couldn't use that knowledge without his new company compensating you.

    Come to that, if these employees are so valuable, why are you letting them leave in the first place?

    The article clearly stated that Yahoo has stopped selling Nazi memorabilia *everywhere*, just to appease the French.

    This is just the thin end of the wedge. How about CNN filtering their news if they think your IP address is in China? I wonder what the people who risk their lives running proxy servers in China would think of that.

    Apparently we're doing it all wrong.

    I thought that one of the obvious benefits of networking my computer with everyone else was being able to send pictures of my kids to my parents. This is a good thing. It makes everyone except Jon Katz happy.

    If you expected the revolution to turn out differently, too bad. It's in the nature of revolutions to be unpredictable.

    Windows doesn't have a diversity problem at all

    If I had mod points this would be +1 Funny.

    Windows currently has two desktop versions (ME & W2K Pro), two embedded versions (CE & Embedded NT) and three server versions (W2K [Advanced|Datacenter] Server). As far as I know, only the server versions actually run all each others binaries.

    Any good course in these subjects will contain a fair bit of programming along the way, with the benefit that they won't tell you how to do it. You'll get a good grounding in critical thinking and methodological approaches to solving problems, and you get to teach yourself programming to do the course work, which is how 90% of real-world code gets written - i.e. to solve a problem.

    Disclaimer: I am a Maths graduate. I didn't take the programming options because they cut into my drinking time too much.

    The same reason people do it now. At some point those mp3s were paid for, probably in the form of a CD. The person who bought the $20 CD was willing to share the mp3s with millions of people he didn't know, why should he worry about doing the same with a $1 mp3 file?
