  1. Ditch digger turned management on Geeks in Management? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I understand it can be a little strange. About 4 months ago I was a ditch digger (sometimes called a helper). I had filled this role for 2 years. Then all of a sudden they pulled me in the office to setup a new computer. I am now running jobs, dealing w/ customers and have about 12 people under me who used to be my supervisors. Its all kind of wierdgoing fromdealing with a shovel to negotiating contracts that are 50x my income. Just a little to weird.

Lawsuits and supression of information will NEVER give security. They should not waste time trying stop people from posting information. They should spend their money to ensure their setup is secure, or prosecuting the individuals who actually stole. When will people start placing blame where it belongs... on the theif..and not on publishers. Besides it is ussually cheaper to pay good programmers and security experts than lawyers. Even when I charged 6 times (2 x triple time..they woke me up on a holiday and weekend and I was hung over) my normal rate.

Yes, a program can destroy hardware. If you mess around with write functions it is pretty easy to destroy some media. Most writeable meadia can only be written to so many times and damage can be caused by too many successive writes in short order. There are many other ways to destroy media. I use several methods to safeguard certain data so it won't fall into the wrong hands in the event of physical seizure of the device.

I don't care what rule set they used. I only played D&D once (I was trying to lay some girl who was also playing :-)) I thought the movie was decent (not great but decent). For those of you complaining about reuse of ideas, that is how stories are written. They call these basic plot elements. Some of you might want to take a few more creative writing classes. My girlfriend liked it (different girl than the one who played D&D), so thats all that matters. BTW if everything has to be thechnically correct how do you get new and novel ways of doing things w/o breaking the rules?

  6. Re:Violating Yourself on EFF Makes Call For DMCA Help · · Score: 2

This is not exactly violating myself. I ften have to construct essays on various movies for academic research. With the current wersion of DMCA I have violated it numerous times in order to excerpt small sections to provide with my project (as required by the project). I have also had my costs of education raised, due to my inability to obtain software to view DVD's I had to purchase Windows in order to watch it. In order to obtain the movie clips I needed I just ran the o/p back into an i/p to record. (I have not yet figured out how to use DeCSS even though I have been trying to figure it out for about 3 months). How am I supposed to do my assignments when I can not excerpt from a video? I can't afford to purchase a full copy of all of these movies. Thoughts Ideas?
