The name 'Alpha' was the codename, the original product name was 'AXP', but that was quickly changed.
My favorite Alpha memory is being in the VMS group and being told that Ultrix wasn't going to be allowed to port to it. It was going to be a VMS-only chip. Of course, this was back in the 'UNIX is snake oil' days.
The original article touts never needing to add
hardware, hundreds of software available for
purchase with a mouse click and can run Windows
and Linux apps.
I'd guess Lindows is a fancy thin client terminal.
Perhaps a free OS running Citrix or some VNC-like
app.
We had the long form and the census enumerator
had to pay a visit (we have 6 kids and the form
only had room for 4, go figure). For racial
background I wanted to put 'European', but they
wouldn't take it until I gave a country name.
I made a graphic to commemorate the Alpha:

> the census really does some good for people, as big and lumbering as it is.
The census is an outstanding resource for people
working on genealogy!
The census people don't like to talk about it, but
all the records are available after 72 years at
your regional national archives branch.
