This is a particularly stupid idea by msn considering that this is the main portal a lot of people go to in order to get to major websites, including msnbc. While I haven't checked out whether MSNBC still works with Opera or Mozilla, it appears to me that not allowing people to view your website based upon their browser will only decrease your viewer base. If MS wants to get good publicity for all of their web initiatives, it would only make sense to try to get the word out to everyone. This includes people with other browser software besides IE.
This is one of those blatant attempts at controlling a user's desktop that even the office secretary will be pissed off by this...provided that he/she is not currently using IE.
Anyways, I'm curious as to if it will stay closed to other browsers or if pressure will force them to change it.
Linux user's beef with Java is completely hypocritical. It takes too long?!?!? What the hell is Netscape doing when I load it? I swear I can cook my bloody dinner, run 5 miles, get some more groceries and Netscape would STILL be loading!
The fact that some/. peeps blame how Java crashes browsers on people other than the people who made the browser shows how arrogant and ignorant you are. Unless you have the bloody plug-in installed and being used, the browser's VM is what the applets are using. So, most of the crashes Netscape experiences come from...*gasp*...Netscape's implementation of the virtual machine!
And, also, what do you expect about Sun supporting Linux? Most people can't understand the bloody thing like most of us do and, admit it, it's does NOT have a high market share. So, quit your bitching about it's lack of support. If you want something supported, jump on a bandwagon. Otherwise, until Linux gets accepted by people who are not born with Uniux running in their veins, the support for it will always be a step behind.
Personally, I've found Java to be an awesome language(if you couldn't tell). It's better organized than C++, you can actually understand what a class does by looking at its name without reading up on it for an hour, there is data hiding (contrary to what some people have said), and there's more you can do with it.

There's my opinion. Go ahead, flame me.
