I love Java. I'm much more productive in it than I am in C or C++, both of which I use professionally. I find it a superior language, and use it not because of any trumped-up hype, but because it works for me.
And Linux and Java are wonderful together. I use Mandrake 7.2, have used both Sun's and IBM's JDKs, the Jikes compiler, and Ant. Works great, and I have no complaints. I prefer developing in Linux over Windows alot.
I can appreciate some people's dislike of a given language (at the risk of being lynched, I have a strong distaste of functional languages like LISP or Scheme, and I'm not real fond of Perl, a crime, I'm sure...). But there are plenty of us that think that Java and Linux are fabulous together.
