  1. Re:Finally, it has a name... on How Do You Organize Your Data? · · Score: 1

I use this technique for paper as well as electronic data. However, I call it the PILE (Perpetual Information Location Environment) system. Every three months, I scrap off the bottom of the PILE and throw it away. Anything important has naturally floated to the top and is kept.

  2. Re:Telocity.net on On the Reliability of DSL Providers... · · Score: 1

I have had Telocity in Chicago since August of 1999.

Installation - Above average. Telocity was fine. They kept me informed every step of the way and their end of the service was timely. Unfortunately, they had to go through Ameritech who were absolutely clueless. Among otehr things, ended up in my own phone closet switching my ISDN line over to DSL myself...

Uptime - Average. I have experienced several outages, the longest lasted well over a day. Their e-mail server seems to be particularly finicky.

Technical support - Excellent. Have had to make several technical support calls for a variety of platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux). The tech answering the call has always been knowledgeable and has resolved the issue expeditiously.

Billing - Below Average. Had a chronic billing problem while trying to change credit cards. Only had it resolved after obtaining company officers personal e-mail addresses and sending a very nasty complaint...

I have recommended Telocity to over a half-dozen friends and colleagues, all of whom have had a positive experience.
