  1. GPL will kill it (not a troll) on 3D GUI Project · · Score: 1

While this may sound like a troll it is not. Please read on before judging me.
By making the project GPL it is already doomed. It means more or less that the project and therefore the idea it represents will reach only a tiny (5% or so) of computer users.
Again this sad but the truth. The average user uses windows or a MAC not Linux. Becasue this project is GPL it will never be seen by these people. Since these people won't see it they wont use it. It will eventually lead to a small group of developers working on the project and despite it's technical merrits, making no headway in getting it out to the public.
All this becasue the project is GPL. It would be better, from a buisness standpoint anyway, to try and pitch the project to a company as the next UI for their program. That way the UI gets some exposure.
This project like so many other good ideas is doomed by the GPL. Mabey it's time for something better. I think we all need to unite and get rid of the thing. To much good programming has gone to wats because of it. Lets all join hands and give the IT community a present it can cherish forever. Lets kill the GPL.

You ranting Linux Zelot! Are you so pompus to think that by being "uber" you are the only person who deserves a stable OS.
Jeeeebus!!! What if the people who designed electronics thought the same way as you. You wouldn't have a computer to be so uppity with now would you.
What if the people who grow food decided that "If you can't do it from scratch I'm not going to help"
It'sjerks like you that give Linux, Open Source, and computer useres in general a bad name.
Get off you soap box and help a newbie!! You never know, the kid you help get started today may be the Linus of tommorow.
    Pompus jackass!

  3. Re:AMD? --- Missing the point. on Intel's Itanium Processor Explained · · Score: 1

After reading this far I think that you as well as many others are missing the point. This chip is NOT aimed at the same market as the new AMD x86-64 chip. The new Intel chip is aimed at the server market where there is a need for faster machines with the ability to process more and more data everyday.

Intel is introducing the future of computing with this chip. It is doing what it did years ago when it introduced it's first x86 chip to the public. Intel is not improving on existing technology they are creating new technology. While the new Intel chips may not run Quake 3 as fast as current AMD CPU's that it fine. It wasn't invented to run Quake. The only reason it will run x86 code at all is to ease the transition.

All in all I think the comparisions are moot. The two are aimed at diffrent segments of the IT community. Although the comparision is inevitable it add nothing to the discussion, only confusion for those that didn't read the sharky article.

  4. Re:I have a bad feeling about this on Dune Miniseries Airs Tonight · · Score: 1

It's kinda funny, The subject of your post and your concern about a Star Wars comparision. In each on the Star Wars movies the above phrase "I have a bad feeling about this." was uttered once, each time by a different character. Watch the movies again if you don't believe me.

Anyway I agree with you in the respect that the two are totally seperate beasts. Star Wars was and still is according to George Lucas "Cowboys in space", although he claimed the last one had many refrences to his own personal takes on god and spirtuality. Dune was meant to have a more social and political message.

I think that by comparing it to Star Wars it will get many more viewers then if CNN never mentioned it at all and passed it by as a mini-series that only a geek would watch. Just my $.02

  5. Nothing can compare to the book on Dune Miniseries Airs Tonight · · Score: 1

The original dune was IMHO a feeble attempt at an undertaking that couldn't be accomplished regardless at the time. The technology was not in place to create the world that Frank Herbert described in the first book of the series. The director, David Lynch (sp) was also not up for the job. He was more infatuated with making a "social impact" on the film world then he was with honoring the flow of the book.

I eagerly await this evening when I can tune in and see the first installment fo the series, but I don't have my hopes up. As with all great books, which Dune holds the highest title for me, the movies are always dissapointing. There is too much that can't be translated to picture.
