  1. Is the world ready for wireless internet service? on Is The Wireless Internet Not Ready For Prime Time? · · Score: 1

I work for the Sprint Broadband Wireless Group. We have tried several different technologies. There is so much that goes with Wireless Internet Service. Do we talk about gen. 1, gen. 2, gen. 3! Currently we are using gen.1, but are already gearing up for gen. 2. There is a need for wireless internet service. From our towers, we can serve customers in a 35 mile radius. There are a lot of people who can not still get DSL or cable modems. I live 1/2 the time in VA and 1/2 in Kansas City. In KC I cannot get cable-modem access at my home. In VA I live 10 minutes from DC, and I can't get DSL or cable-modem service! If wireless internet service were available in either of these two cities, I would be have a viable option. But, I am still like a lot of other people, who can not get fast internet service due to the last mile. Wireless internet overlooks the last mile and gets straight to the point. I have seen speeds as high 6mb downloads with wireless internet from distances of 25 miles away! What about people who live on the out-skirts of cities? Cable modems providers nor DSL providers will not reach most of these people for a long time. Not to mention, a lot of services have gone wireless. Take voice over IP. Tired of paying the Bells, well, soon you may not have to, if you use a company who provides wireless voice and internet. Wireless internet service is here to stay. Our customer base continues to grow everyday, soon we will have over 1,000 customer installs per day! We are launching wireless internet service in a new city about every month. Sometimes in 2-3 cities a month. Look for wireless internet service to stay.
