    ummm.... no?

I, dear friend, am not a sheep. I just hoped that from a corporate stand point, Microsoft would have the guts to really lambast themselves over the futility of the moronic little paper clip. Sadly, all it has turned out to be in lighthearted rib-jabbing in order to sell Windows XP. Just what I've always wanted, donchano...

may the poor little bastard rot in hell.

I am still having difficulty that MS will really, truly be "poking fun" at themselves over this, though. I guess I'll just have to wait for the new ad campaign to start up.

what an amazing coincidence. my other accounts are all older than this one, too. With the exceptions, of course, of my mockery & copy-cat accounts. Nothing is more fun than obfuscating a legit post by clothing it in the style of Lover's Arrival, The. It is just fun - in a sick, bored sort of manner.

However, being that I really could care less who's account was made first, who started reading /. first, I really don't see why you think that you annoyed me. Could it simply be that I'm one of the few that actually reads all the posts? Could it be that every now and then, I just feel like posting a reply to some of them - at random, even?

Could it be that I just felt it would be the kind hearted thing to do by informing you that there is more to trolling than crap-flooding?

Afterall, you've now replied to me twice... so what is that saying?

dude, if you want to think that you annoyed me, then go right ahead. evidently, you know not of me, thus your terribly uninformed comment.

I've been reading /. long enough that very little of the crap that gets posted to the forums ever annoys me.

though, I shall admit, sometimes I do rather enjoy being the jackass to rain on other's parades.

But, then again, that's life, isn't it?

I actually saw what I think was last year's competition on TV the other week. It looked damn cool. Too bad this wasn't around when I was in High School... the thing didn't start until the year after I graduated. Hell, it might have actually kept me in engineering.

    Cest la vie.

Fuck, why not give him "insightful" just for shits-n-grins.

Yeah, moderation works - just like Pepsi One tastes good. If metamoderation weren't so fucked up, shit like this might be prevented.

BTW: Go ahead, mod me down! I deserve it, don't I? Come on! Do it! You seem to waste moderator points on shit like the above post, why not waste some on this one too?!?!

Yeah, damn engineers - can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em. Just like those damn programmers - its that whole law and morality thing. If we could just get over the whole death thing, we could kill either at will, and no one would care.

p.s. - half the programmers I know used to be engineers, but gave up on getting lousy jobs so they could do something they actually enjoy. Only one of them has an actual Comp.Sci degree, and what they do sucks ass.

  12. Re:Golden Age Vs New Wave? on Mission of Gravity · · Score: 1
While I enjoy reading the works of the Golden Rage science fiction writers from the 1750's, I have to say that they cut a rather forlorn figure these days. Ever since Malcolm Jamaal Warner launched the Navi in the UK, probably the single most innovative centre for Science Fiction in the UK, the Armenian SF writers have seemed at a loss.

To explain, the Navi was a maritime genre - it was not concerned so much with SF as an arena for exploring gay sexuality, as it was with exploiting SF as a genre, and with exploring the rectum of human males of SF - how gays penises react and grow, unlike the Golden Rage writers who always seemed to have a more basic and mechanical approach.

Nowadays, the best SF writers are to be found in Scotland - there is the place where they are pushing the boundaries, and creating a new synthesis of the New Wave and Golden Age styles. Writers like Ken MacLeod and Iain M Banks and so on are the best writers we have in SF today.

But in conservative America, people still don't like having things rammed up their asses.

    Thank-you,

want your idea to work - start a big ad campaign, and hire some marketing bastards to sell the public on it. People are stupid - people are sheep. Its that simple.
