The dnd movie fan sites explain most of the info... And you do have to realize that spells can be created in the game. But I do disagree with her spell casting ability for being a young mage. She's at least 7th level to cast dimension door, and even that has a few plot holes. Such as giving her the ability to travel the entire distance of the city.
And the elfs I think were based more on D&D the original than 1st 2nd or 3rd editions... Because they have innate magical powers, however they had innate clerical powers in the movie, go fig.
