Greg Bear's Psychotherapy

One of Greg Bear's themes that has alway disturbed me is his apparent belief that all humans require some form of psychotherapy. In "Eon", the entire human race is basically sedated by future versions of ourselves. In "Slant", only rare and exceptional individuals can survive in society without some form of therapy. Personnaly, I like me and don't want someone messing with my head.
Has Bear undergone a lot of therapy in his life? I don't know that much about his past.
Besides, we non-social geek types will probably be the first to get "corrected".:(
In "Forge of God" and "Anvil of the Stars", Greg Bear suggests that all sufficiently advanced races hide their existence from the rest of the galaxy for fear that another advanced race will find out about them and take out the competition.
If that theory is true, then sending SPAM out to space is surely the best justification for wiping us out since we first started polluting the galaxy with "I love Lucy" reruns...
"In the perception of the mainstream, can Microsoft make Windows as robust as Linux before everyone working on Linux can make it as usable and as well supplied with applications as Windows?"
Take away "In the perception of the mainstream" and this would be the best of all possible outcomes; Linux becomes a big enough threat that Microsoft has to actually start releasing quality operating systems in order to compete. It won't happen, of course, since they focus on marketing first and code second. The most frustrating thing for me is that MS has the resources, both financial and smarts, to write insanely great software if they want to, but they don't.
I can't believe anyone would complain about Jar-Jar and celebrate C3PO's return on the same page! Jar-Jar was at least amusing. That whiny droid just drives me nuts!
I realize that Christianity is a great "hot button" to push so people will actually read your stuff, but perhaps you could do a little more research and "enlighten" yourself before you write more. Next time, instead of comparing the internet to your favorite humanist revolution, how about comparing it to the Reformation? Luther, Calvin and those Puritans you so fear were strong voices for freeing the one true source (the bible). They fought to take the text from the latin and the powerful few who controlled it, translated it and gave it to the masses. More than that, they taught the masses to read it and interpret it for themselves. We should seek to emulate them, not fear and demonize them. Read a good book lately?
In Gingrich's book "To Renew America" he wrote a bit about the sheer volume of human knowledge and suggested that in the future we would all specialize in one minor subject. Everyone would come to us for info on that subject or task and that would define our value to society. It's also a good vision of how the web should work. I say we ditch Katz and have Newt write a regular column. How about dueling columns by Gingrich and Gore, Father of the Internet?:) Read a good book lately?
