having been through the modern equivalent of the Holland's tulip mania
I've been a Dutch citizen all my life, and attended all history-classes -awake- up to highschool, but I never heard of that "tulip mania".
Isn't this some sort of urban legend floating around?
Another example might be Pay-Per-View TV. I'm not sure how popular this is, but my guess is that going to the store and renting something that can be viewed multiple times and at the leisure of the viewer is still more popular.
I've bought some PPV movies, but it sucked, since I couldn't pause the movie when I needed to go to the bathroom, or get something to drink
It was like I watched a regular ('free') broadcasted flick.
Since I payed for the movie in advance, at least I would like to have the possibility of inserting breaks at my convenience (and not when the commercials break in).

What do I do when my ISP isn't 'carrying' a particular site?
Don't ya think that the ISP will give you a checklist of 'channels' which you can pick 'n choose from? I assume they will offer every site that will do this kind of business, but will grant you access to so many sites, unless you pay more subscription fee.
A good ISP will offer some basic subscription-set, and flexible additions.
The rest of the internet (like/.) will be free and open and accessable for everyone.
In other news, other evil corporations are also charging schools for their products:
Desks, chairs, paper, cleaning supplies, books, food, buses, etc.
How much will a typical Kleenex-supplier fine you if you haven't paid for a box of tissues?
Is there a BKA (Business Kleenex Alliance")?
Isn't the BSA just stealing up tax-payer's money with those astronomical fines? Schools are not making much money with using (obsolete 5 year-old) MS-DOS copies, are they?
A few questions from Europe's most enthousiasic piracy country:^)
if they were to require non-standard software, then it would reder the whole operation useless, since that software usually breaks, is incompatible with OS versions, gets outdated, etc.
I wonder what the capabilities would be. I suppose a heavy "SMTP/HTTP"-only firewall would filter out all the fun:(
Isn't the lookup of smart-tags going to clog all the bandwith, or will it use a huge local database with keywords and urls which get outdated really soon? (Or can be emptied?:)
I don't see this how feature should work better than those "Channels" were supposed to, 3 years ago.

They probably got some advise from the X-Box techies, and put that knowledge back in DirectX?
