  1. Re:Genetic discrimination is nothing new on UK Insurance Co. Admits Using Genetic Screening · · Score: 1

It is different.. As it stands now, if you can read this article, then you *ARE* either a male or a female (well, most of us anyhow lol)..

Now, if an insurance were to refuse/jack up insurance because there is a minute probablity you may get cancer, or multiple heart attacks then that is just absurd. Just because it runs in the family DOES NOT mean you will 100% without a doubt obtain the same condition.

For me, I don't have any serious health conditions in my family (that I know of). No one in my family (blood-related) that I can recall has had cancer(save for one grandfather - died like 17 years before I was born) or heart disease, and we have a rather large family. All my other grandparents are in their 80's. I am in good health at the ripe old age of 21, yet, if an insurance company were to result to genetic testing and saw that a small, tiny trace of cancer (maybe since one of my grandfathers had it - but NO ONE else in 4 generations) then they would go nuts and jack my rates by 500% or some absurd figure. How about the "carriers" of AIDS. They will *never* develop full blown AIDS, and thus it will never pose a risk to their life, but you better believe the insurance companies will either 1) refuse insurance or 2) take 90% of the poor guys paycheck...

Genetic testing CANNOT become a reality in this regard - unless we find a way to cure *everything* at a reasonable price (yeah right).

If this *does* become the case, and insurance companies can discriminate freely, then I can predict with 100% accuracy what the new job market will be. Think how much money you could make if you only insured people that wouldn't die until they are 90-100 and you get in on the ground floor when they are in their 20's. You would be paying out ZILCH for like 70 years when you first start out. Instant millionaire.

Bleh, this is all making me sick...Sorry for ranting

RAD is what it's all about. There are tons of developers who are scared of Linux because the thought of designing the interfaces with code and not a GUI is just too much. Yes, I know there are GUI builders that will generate the code, but you know what I mean. For me, I prefer the RAD method as well. If I need to write a little utility program for someone that does a basic task (but needs a GUI front end) I really don't want to spend the extra time hand coding a GUI when I can make one in minutes with a visual interface, and then slap the needed code into a couple "events". As well, Delphi != VB. Delphi is ALOT faster than VB and is easier to use IMO. And just remember, C++ Builder is coming to Linux as well for you C++ purists :)
