I have heard similar concerns about lack of processing power from many different fields of work like computer aided drafting (CAD) and many graphics designers who cannot bring themeselves to use macs (which would be a smart thing to do in thier situation). They all have brought up the idea of running a linux cluster that would be able to provide them with enough CPU power to easily accomplish whatever there tasks are (rendering, etc) But fact still remains that poor software and bug-riddled code seems to be hindering one of linux's key points that it should be capitalizing off of.
sure Linux has grown lately... everything has (remember 20mb HD's??) Think about it this way. Microsoft os'es come on only one cd, while Linux distros come on 2 (most at least) this is for a goodreason.
Because of the fact that microsoft sells an OPERATING SYSTEM!!! They do NOT sell you everything your workstation needs( so they can make more$$$$)
for the sony symphonic orchestra. Nothing like metallic musicians on a woodwind.
