What's really ironic is that SysV unix incorporates a lot of features that BSD introduced over the years... long before Linux existed. TCP/IP for instance?
good luck and god speed to them in their quest to defeat the totalitarian regimes out there. Maybe they'll have a better record along those lines than the U.S. government.
You're damn right there is. We don't need the Federal government telling us what to do. If anyone followed the encryption battle, the Internet tax battle (all but lost it now seems), and yes, the war with Microsoft (looks better for Microsoft lately), they ought to know what to expect out of a technology czar: even more of the same.

You mean they make malt liquor in France? If "Joe" can't find a job, why is he spending his evenings watching television? Why is he buying designer jeans instead of clothing that is more suitable for a job interview? 300,000 unemployed software engineers in India is a testament to the effects of 50 years of bureaucracy, border wars, and protectionism in India. The software industry here is a direct result of restraint on the part of our own slightly more competent government.
Competition? FreeBSD got its usb device support from NetBSD and an exciting new FFS optimization from OpenBSD. I'm sure NetBSD and OpenBSD have migrated some portions of the FreeBSD distro over as well. They all have binary compatibility with each other. Each one is an asset to the others.
Well, I could write a 50 page article proving that the Earth really is flat, but I'd rather do something more worthwhile like playing Doom for the 2X10^50th time.
Your average capitalist would buy a tourist resort instead of taking it away from someone else, and he would pay the employees who work there market wages. And the profits wouldn't go towards propping up a dictatorship.
As long as they obey our laws like other American citizens, they're infinitely more reliable than Castro's propagandists. There is no "middle area" between Castro and the Cuban exiles, nor is there an excuse for ignorance. I'm a typical American who may disagree with the position of some of the Cuban exiles out there who want to continue the embargo, but I have no respect for Castro sympathizers, nor any of the other Quislings (communist or otherwise) of the 20th century. If Cuban exiles offend you so, you really ought to move to Cuba, make yourself one of Fidel's serfs, and leave us in peace.
such an idea might even help the students, give them an excellent idea of what the university's "philosophy" is. A party school has a "purity test", an ivy league has their blood test, and a real school has a test on mathematics, reading, writing, basic science, and whatever else they think a successful student needs.
Every age has its own share of P.T. Barnums. This time, it's the journalists. I make it a point not to take columns very seriously when most of the paper is taken up by allusions to history and dramatic self portraits of the author. But you get what you pay for.
the nice thing about most new movies these days is that you can usually tell just how stupid the film is when you see the preview. Such was the case with AntiTrust. There are exceptions, of course, as you can squeeze all the good scenes from some movies into the trailers (like Phantom Menace), but usually a preview can't save the movie, or rather a movie can't save the preview.

Really? When's the last time Linux had an up-to-date man page?

Ironic that the EU made this threat before the Chinese did.
Bump this guy up. He hit the nail on the head.

"Smart Growth" for the internet? Screw 'em!

So, is Yamauchi responsible for the imprisonment and deaths of innocent people too? If so, did he mean well?
I always wondered if they could do sort-of a cross promotion with Lecter's Housewares.
...a big ACC university has its own drug test...

as long as the federal government doesn't interfere, they can make their own admissions tests.

Quite right. They're all evil because they don't believe in Canadian socialism!
Pathetic.
