I am sure you didn't mean any disrespect, but the whole "Linux always finds a way to work" irks me. Linux doesn't fine a way, some extremely talented and hard working individuals spend vast amounts of their time building/designing/testing code to support hardware. It's not magical.
Again, I am sure you didn't mean anything negative by your comment, but I have seen this perspective become pervasive an I'd like it stop.
Perhaps I missed something, but Linux is just a kernel (and according to some people a huge chuck of GNU software). This still makes no sense, they will still have to create so much more software than just using something like Android. They could trim down android to the point where it is able to run on smaller less functional phones. This decision does not makes sense to me.
I am dying to get machines this small, but what is going on with the price? As long as the price is this high, how in the world can anyone deploy these in any quantity?
Why can't someone make a box like the open brick that does not cost as much as a regular PC with monitor?
Lawrence lessig talks about how the past always tries to control the future. When companies/concepts/technologies become irrelavant they go to the government to get protection for their money machines.
The Phone company
The Music and Movie distribution Industry
And now the software industry
It is irrelevant what decisions the government makes becuase ultimately through the path of least resisitance Open-Source will dominate. The phone companies will be relegated to uselessness or at least not look anything like they do now, and the RIAA and MPAA will become a relic of the past. This is the way of things.
Governments change regularly, policy, leaders etc. etc. etc. But vi is forever!
If windows is this hard to pair down, then how can anyone seriously consider embedded XP for a project that does not require a web browser? MS's argument is just too weak here, they are playing on lawyers and Government officials unfamiliarity with Software development.

If you want your equipment safe from environmental conditions get a NEMA enclosure. If you don't mind being a little creative you could mount an entire computer system in a NEMA enclosure or even better work with a company to customer configure one of their enclosures for you.
Linux is powerful because it is maleable. It is my OS made available to me by giants whom I stand on their shoulders. Why is it necessary for every drooling caveman to use Linux. As soon as people say "Make the install easier" I think OK why haven't you? Please stop crying for "easier to use" because all it means to me is less options. Does anyone else think RedHat install is a little restrictive and deceptivley too simple?
I accidentally posted this anon.

COINTELPRO, do you know anything about history? You do not have to break the law, you just have to disagee with whoever is in power.
They are moving to OpenOFfice not the Linux OS. Can anyone clarify this further?

This is what obsolete things do.
