Yeah, Meridian blows. They've got a "fix" for it now though, if we've both experienced the same thing; just make sure you're willing to invest a lot of time screwing with first-levelers... frankly, it's not really worth the hassle.
The company I worked for over the Y2k issue was probably the worst company one could work for; a telephone surveying company. The owner (John Stepleton) was too cheap to put money into upgrading all our non-compliant systems, so we ended up rigging a timeserver together for all the stations to retrieve their times from. That effectively solved the problem, until....
They were too cheap to buy an additional drive for their main server, at which time one of the new guys (since I'd left) decided to clear some space off the drive by removing the timeserver.
Boom. No calls could be made until the timeserver was rebuilt. Quite a shame, eh?
Here's to you, John Stepleton... may your life be as fruitless as last year's was!
Their argument in the letter basically says, "Hey, you're cutting us out!" The threat that their authors might not write as much is ludicrous; everyone knows that writers do most of their work out of passion (except for the godawful author of the "Chicken Soup for the..." series)
They have absolutely no legal basis for this, and if they think they do, they should go look at the precedence set by used-CD vendors who successfully defended themselves in court in the 90's.

Upon reloading it to show a co-worker, the page is now gone.
Luckily, that email address is still here on/. so I can still get my questions answered!
If you need different fonts and graphics to get an idea approved, perhaps the idea wasn't that good to begin with, or perhaps you're working with schmucks.
