  1. 2nd class...prolly, but it wont matter on AMD Challenges P4 With 1.33Ghz · · Score: 1

I have two Athlons and three P3s in my home workpit. The Athlons were cheaper by far initially, but thanks to crappy chipsets, I spend more time making the Athlons work than the Pentiums. At work, I don't even bother risking help-desk issues by buying AMD. Sorry guys, but as long as I still need to let users load personal apps on their boxes, AMD is still a 2nd class citizen to me. Besides, Windows is evil, when did we decide Intel was evil? Intel makes a good product for the price, and based on what AMD is putting out, I think the pricing is justifiable.

  2. So wazzup on Dear CDDB Users: Thanks For Helping The RIAA! · · Score: 1

I didn't realize the righteous flock was out and about on the internet. Regardless of the soapbox bro, the music industry has been making record profits for 10 years. They have no problems with free distribution...just the distributor they have no control over...Napster. The RIAA backers are already creating their own answer to Napster. This is about controlling profits , not stealing anything. Everyone already knows that Napster has created a spike in overall record sales, the industry KNOWS this. They simply don't want Napster controlling the free medium without a strategic commercial inserted here...and here...and here. See the real issue , don't run around condemning folks. As far as gracenote, I am shocked that no one saw this coming. This is the exact type of function Gracenote's DB seems built for.

I think you are partially right. RIAA willbe gone soon. The idea that an artist can not create without having a limo, gold chains, and a 4 million dollar house is wrong. Art should never be a business. Art will expand, not contract in an open universe. The curent system rewards a few artists that market great, but have marginal talent. Imagine a world where the song is more important than the image. Coming to a world near you!

Whenever a kid does ANYTHING not socially streamlined in this country, there are a few idiots that point to this as an excuse to BLAME/BAN/PROTEST something. The real culprit of lost children is parental indifference, abandonment, and ignorance. Of course the ones who usually want to BAN anything are usually the most hypocritical and irresponsible. Protect your kids by raising them you dickhead, dont limit my freedom, and my kids because you are too stinkin lazy to take charge of your life.

Great comments, and the correlation of the events you speak of is quite true. In America, personal freedom has been limited more in the last 30 years than the previous 200. Like a bell curve, I hope we have reached the top of this madness. Of course if you look ahead, banning abortion, banning handguns, broadening search and seizure laws, and finally, desensitizing our children to violations of their personal privacy, I think we may just be at the beginning of America the Despot.

  10. Re:Age induced orthodoxy. He is browbeating on More On 'Ender' Film From Orson Scott Card · · Score: 1

I agree with this post. Card is a wonderful writer, BUT he has made me feel uncomfortable since The Lost Boys. I am not anti-mormon, but I do not appreciate ANY writer throwing religious recruitment into his subtext. This is more true when it becomes a distraction to an otherwise good story. I wouldn't mind so much if it was subtle, and I had the challenge of finding it in the story, but when it is SO overt, it's just plain ol'preachy. This does not mean that the Ender series is bad..I love those books warts and all, and the religious commentary is kept mainly to marriage and relationship. I will comment though, OSC can write whatever he wants, but he can't expect anyone to buy it but "Cheese and Rice and Rattling Chains" types. Market demand will fall. As long as he is kewl with that...so be it.

Only TWO countries and NO corporations have ever successfully launched manned spacecraft. Why? Because space is HARD! We aren't on Mars,or driving buggies around the moon because it takes the best of every technology, and a thousand people to keep a ship in orbit in the right place. There is no easy way in to space, andthis guy is just crowing for dollars. He'll bilk some VC for money, and remain employed for another few years. He might even get ONE bird in the air. This guy thinks NASA is going to piggyback him for 10mill?! 150lbs almost equals another astronaut. I pity the poor clueless VC who just lost half his trust on hairbrained dotcoms, only to step smack into Mr. Wizard here with his radiation proof, thermal proof, magic "Macellites".
