Hey wait a second... that's the textbook definition of a natural monopoly.
So, break it up. Decouple the maintenance of the infrastructure from the cable providers. Have one company (or part of a company) manage the infrastructure, and let other companies provide the content, lease the infrastructure and provide content/bandwidth to subscribers.
The government shouldn't enforce prices. It should ensure there's enough competition, and that the competition is fair. When that is done, prices should automatically fall.
I should have a counter top device that can measure out with perfect accuracy any liquid.
Great, but the challenges of making a design that works with any kind of liquid without cross contamination, or bacterial growth inside the device have nothing to do with basic coding skills.
it is like hearing that most people don't need to learn to type
Typing is an easy and useful skill that nearly everybody can learn. For a better analogy, compare coding to playing the piano. I have absolutely no talent for music, and all my school music lessons have been a total waste of time. Concert pianists aren't discovered through basic music lessons at school.
Even the most basic procedures can have unexpected consequences. Human bodies are poorly standardized.
People may be better at improvising when faced with unexpected events, but if robots outperform humans on the other tasks, they may still have a better overall score.
Dismissing a huge swath of people as somehow unworthy or incapable simply because they don't immediately become fascinated by a subject is absurd.
No doubt cases like yours happen, but very doubtful we're talking about a huge swath. And in the context of national budget allocations, it's best to focus on the big groups, and not worry too much about the few that fall through the cracks. Has nothing to do with emotional terms such as "unworthy". It's just basic statistics.
An entire parallel yet grossly superior system of education exists for millionaires and billionaires
And yet, that grossly superior system of education only managed to produce crap politicians. Half of them even deny basic science such as evolution and greenhouse effect of CO2.
Just take away their advantage, and ignore the bitching and whining. That's how I dealt with my kids when they were growing up.
So the $25/month price is below fair market value and the government is forcing companies to subsidize their customers ?
It is indeed part of the barrier to entry, but having the state buy it is not the only solution.

So then the government should rip out the last mile of cable to everyone's home and install it themselves?
No, and I never said that.
What if the barrier is that you need a couple of 10s of millions of dollars to buy and install infrastructure just to get started?
Be creative. There's no need to buy the infrastructure, if you can lease it from the current providers.
How the hell does a government ensure there's enough competition, if there aren't competitors to go around in the first place?
So why don't more competitors enter the market ? Find the barrier to entry, and then remove it.
The size of the country and the population density shouldn't stop the market from determining a fair price, though.

I'm always wondering why we're still sending the subject unencrypted.

The liability concerns alone mean it won't happen.
If you can show that the robot causes fewer incidents than people, someone will be willing to provide liability insurance. At a lower premium even.

If Mrs. Clinton could decide which messages to delete permanently, it was insecure.
Making a dress disappear was a bit too much too ask, though.
Lots of people have a family name. Turning it into a brand the way she did is seriously impressive. Few here are anywhere near that caliber.
You are right. A family name isn't enough, you also need a sex tape.
Computer science is not a science, but the name just stuck. Your best approach would be to just deal with it.
They would not get to that level if they were not.
They only have to outsmart the other candidate, not actual people with brains.

Less than $5M of that came from her inheritance
Her biggest inheritance was the family name, and she exploited that to get the earnings you talk about. Her only talent is being famous.
Seems their education prepared them just fine.
Or, more likely, their education had little to do with it.
I assume the cow is spherical.
I took PE classes, and I'm still waiting for my first Olympic medal.
The most accurate predictors of scholastic success are 1) IQ of the child's biological parents, and 2) Household income.
Is that also true if you correct household income for IQ of the parents/caretakers ?
