Why microsoft needs to employ a microsoft controlled boot loader - tftfy.

Windows (7, Vista, XP and so on) bootloader is already Microsoft "controlled".

Secure Boot is very much required security feature. It will lock out malware that hides rootkits in boot sector. That's a very good thing. It's also optional, so you can always install Linux. Hell, both Linux and OS X do this already.

While FSF just tries to fight their ideological war, Ubuntu takes less hard road and understands why Microsoft needs to employ secure boot. Good for them, and better for Linux.

Netscape did that themselves. Do you remember how crappy it was and how Netscape tried to include their proprietary tags in HTML? Do you remember those flashy marquee scrolling texts?? Netscape was shit. IE was good. Opera played by the rules and was the most fantastic browser, but it was shareware well into the year 2004.

Girls on a computer screen are so much better: they'll never start bitching over something ridiculous, they don't smell sweaty, they don't spend your money, they're accessible whenever you want them but they also won't ever bother you when you don't want to. This "summer" and "outside" thing really sounds very much an inferior experience.

This really sounds like you think sitting at computer is the only thing to do in the world.

But yesterday I went out and there was lots of beautiful and cute girls and people spending time outside in the summer. Amazing, I know. They are kind of selling it, but they just sell advertising. I don't get why selling advertising usually gets different, almost free pass on everything. And at the same time Slashdot users use AdBlock. It's the same in The Pirate Bay discussions, Google discussions and pretty much everything (not on TV and movies tho). It's still selling and making money.

That's not the point, is it? Of course you shouldn't modify code on someone else's server, but you should still have access to the source code. If you go with open source mentality, that is, and especially if you use other people's work. That's the point of open source and Google is abusing it.

  21. Re:The google's way ? on Ask Slashdot: How To Get Old Commercial Software To Be Open-Sourced? · · Score: 0

But Google itself keeps most of its source code hidden behind servers. They even take GPL'd code and don't give their improvements to others because they don't have to.

The much larger problem is how to open source code that is hidden behind servers. GPLv3 doesn't do it.
