It could be that I've read too much cyberpunk, but I'd like to see MS and Sony do the catching and ruining. Assuming that these pricks aren't located entirely in a nation willing and capable of handling them legally of course.
But how satisfying would it be if photos of their corpses with Surface Pros through their heads started appearing? Or the outlines of PlayStation controllers protruding from their necks?
If Microsoft wants to hire some mercenaries to deal with these dicks in a permanent fashion, I won't complain. The fact that Sony doesn't have actual ninjas on staff is a constant source of disappointment, but easily fixed.
Not even root can create a UID
If God exists, and is the creator of the universe, then omniscience and omnipotence is completely possible in regards to the universe. Consider the universe as analogous to a VM invoked by a user and executing in their namespace. From within the VM, there is no way to tell what that user's permissions are, if a hypervisor is present, or most importantly, that it is a VM at all.
I was all about nano until I started to figure out vim. But since I don't use any of them for anything beyond basic text editing, my opinion might not be all that relevant.
That red light cameras increase accidents is due only to the fact that too many drivers are trying to run lights, and expecting the person in front of them to do the same. If every light had a camera, and everyone knew it, those rear-end collisions would end rather quickly.
I agree. Especially when it comes to safety not revenue. Too many municipalities have corrupted law enforcement to force non-residents to pay for a government that does not represent them. We fought a revolution over that.
is corrupt municipalities manipulating the timing on yellow lights. Speeding cameras sound like a great way to keep people from speeding through towns (where it's really really dangerous), but there are too many corrupt speed-trap towns out there already. I can see them using these cameras to rob even more non-residents.
I also support razing any town that relies on finning non-residents to fund their government. That's literally taxation without representation.
Star Wars didn't need to work, or even actually exist. It was all about convincing the Soviets that it did. And it worked.
Second, it's not about the conflicts we are already involved in, it's about the balance of power and offensive/defensive advantage. If China is first to get it, then as you pointed out, they neutralize our carrier fleet. Our navy is the only thing restraining their aggression in the Sea of China (they've claimed all of it, up to the beaches of their neighbors). If they can neutralize our fleet, they will roll over Taiwan, the Philippines and Japan in no time flat. That is when things will get real bad. If we can put the tech into service first, the balance remains and our allies can relax.
China plays the old-school game of "realist" international politics. According to which an offensive advantage must be pressed before your opponents can match it. The US plays a more Liberal/Institutional game (as all democracies do) so we tend to avoid outright aggression regardless of offensive advantage.
I always thought CC's were evil. Though, considering that all the bank fees had the effect of forcing me into a state of permanent debt anyhow, using one may have been wiser. In the end, switching to a credit union was the best solution. Their business model is far friendlier to members, and they offer comparable (if not superior) products and services. Plus, they pay dividends!
I don't know when the banking industry shifted from their traditional revenue-from-lending model to the present "screw 'em with fees" model, but it stinks.
Why are intra-bank transfers handled via ACH? Why is my credit union able to avoid the ACH system unless dealing with a traditional bank?
The delays and confusion built in to the ACH system allow banks to extract fees from customers that would not otherwise be possible. ACH is an antiquated system that needs to be replaced, but banks have no incentive to do so.
My credit union transfers funds near instantly. The only time there is a delay is when they have to interact with the antiquated ACH systems at traditional banks. My old bank would charge around $23-$26 for a wire transfer or print and mail a check. Even for transfers between accounts at the same bank!
Hear Hear!
I had a nearly identical experience with my US bank - including taking time to explain to my bank manager why their system was utterly wrong. I got nowhere, so I closed my account and joined a Credit Union. I don't know if you have something similar in the UK, but it's like a bank without the BS. Instant electronic transfers, members are owners so they don't try and screw you... I had $250 in fees once because my bank transferred money by printing and mailing a check!!
And two years after leaving them, they still want almost $500 from me, that they are never going to get.
just join a Credit Union. All the benefits of a bank with none of the BS. I switched after realizing my bank was manipulating the ACH system to maximize the fees they could hit me with - for example, bouncing my rent check by processing it just before the deposit that covered it.

EMACS stands for "Eat My A--, C-ntS"
For now anyway..
I wholeheartedly agree, but we call them States, not provinces. Are you Canadian? If so, can you get CTV to bring back "Dan for Mayor" and "Hiccups"?
I wish I had mod points for you. That's wicked informative.

I recently heard we have a few dozen tungsten rods up there already for just that purpose. I had no idea.
What about OPP? As for the ladies, OPP means something gifted The first two letters are the same but the last is something different.
People who target and murder children simply for going to school are intolerably evil. Their mere existence is a threat to all humanity.

The only thing worse than getting involved in an arms race is losing one.
And I am all for it.

Dirt bikes and hybrids are penis neutral. To my knowledge there is no correlation between smugness and penis size, just being a skinny little wuss.

Can you not think of an instance where a two day delay would be too long? Because it has cost me hundreds in ridiculous fees over the years.
I can't think of any other industry that screws their customers like that. Join a credit union. They aren't out to screw you.
