As I am sure you have seen, there are many on here with great ideas.
You said that you have about 100GB worth of data, and years of sweat equity in documents in MS Word.
You already know Windows, so why break that approach?
Buy yourself a name brand Server, so that you get some support for the hardware. Dell, HP, Lenovo, Cisco (Yes Cisco Makes Servers!) Put about 8GB of RAM in it, and get at least 3 1TB Raid drives (of course it will need a RAID controller!). Put Windows Server 2008 R2, and you can migrate your data. You will continue to maintain your DNS/DHCP settings and your office will continue to function the way that you have determined that is best!
